I have the opportunity to purchase a CMC for $400 from a store that closed 2 years ago. It's been in storage since then and I heard this model is discontinued. Does anyone know the specs on it, height, width and weight?

I also want to know your thoughts on this machine.

Does it also include the PC? I believe these used a proprietary controller that only worked on an older PC of the time these were made, with an ISA bus. (a card that plugs into the PC, internally). The newer computers since the early 90's have PCI slots instead.

I compiled some specs for all brands, which live at http://www.getthepictureframing.com/gfaq/cmc.htm

I don't have dimensions for that one, but someone may chime in with the answer. This was a very reliable and popular product, and is certainly worth more than $400. It originally cost about $24,000.00 It was discontinued in 2003, and supported by Fletcher until 2010. I believe the CMC DR still supports this product, and you'll find his banner on this forum. (he is a sponsor)

I know that Jim Miller had one until recently, and he may chime in with some advice. If no one replies, try the CMC Dr.

Best regards,
Mike

I owned one for several years before buying my Valiani, and it was a trouble-free machine. That old design would be most appropriate for routine cutting tasks, but if you want to create custom-designed mats, the software will be lacking.

If you buy that machine, especially since it has been in storage, send it here for refurbishing and updating of the computer before you fire it up:

The 6100 is a tank....built to be a work horse but weighs in at 700 pounds! I bought mine new and have found it to be a great machine for my needs. There are some definate drawbacks to the fact that it isn't just a plug and play with newer computers.....like it runs on windows 95 , the software hasn't been upgraded in a decade, and it won't be. If you buy it I think Jim's plan on getting the cpu upgraded is the way to go, but that cost plus the shipping back and forth will be several times your original investment. Surely you can give it a test drive before you decide. That will help with some of these questions. If you decide to not move forward let me know, if it's close to Texas I might get it for backup parts for my machine.
