Following last week's conference, before leaving Vegas,I wrote a post covering the classes I attended and my experience there....but when I posted it....it did'nt go up on the forum as normal...but instead displayed a message .... something that it was waiting for approval before it would appear. It has not appeared and I received no further message....It's just lost out there somewhere !!
Perhaps it was a bit of a ramble and was too long ??? Is there a limit on the number of words that can be put in a post ??

Many Thanks
Tom

Hi, Tom. I know that when a person first starts posting, a certain
number of their posts are screened before being posted. Frustrating
for the beginner, but it helps the moderators to keep spammers
and the like off the site. It could be your post got caught up in that
system somehow. As for disappearing entirely, I don't know what
happened there.

There is a limit to how long a post can be, but I don't recall if it's
5000 or 10,000 characters, Maybe someone else will. I'm very
glad that you found your trip to Vegas worthwhile.

The Grumbles owner has been testing and installing a new server and software upgrade over the past week and some posts were lost when he was running the tests. He posted that this would occur.

For lengthy posts, it might be best to compose in MS Word or something similar and copy your post over to the appropriate forum. That way you have a chance to edit in the composition, and the text won't be inadvertently sent into the cyber void.

We don't actually screen the posts of new members, we rely on the community to help in that regard. We mostly look for spammers and help with orientation. There are some restrictions to Grumblers in Training, but I don't think limiting post size is one of them.

In addition to what Wally said, there are also some set limits. It will limit how many images or links you can have in a message, as well as how many thousand characters of text. If you go over it, the message wont save and it will tell you why. (and will bring you back to the editor, so it can be fixed)

There is also some spam protection code in there that will mark a message invisible, and set it aside to be approved by a moderator, if it contains many links or images, certain trigger words, and is from a new member with a low number of posts. I saw one about a week ago, and approved it, but didn't notice any since. Everything else gets through and the community notifies the moderators when something looks to be self promoting/spam/offensive.

If we see something posted in the wrong forum (a joke on main board, an ad anywhere, a computer related issue out of computer forum, etc), the mods will usually move it for you. The poster will usually receive a private message explaining, a post in the thread itself, or a temporary note will be posted on the "forwarded to" link from the original location. In some cases, they will receive a "forum infraction" that tracks a score (and details) on their account and alerts the other moderators. Infractions can sometimes remove the ability to post for 30 days. (it puts a lil icon next to the name)

Most of the above features are included with the software to catch patterns used by spammers, and to reduce spam.

10,000 characters limit for posts. You can continue the post in a 2ns post.

I'll check the moderation area for your post.

Found your post in moderation and validated in on thegrumble forum. I then posted a message to bring it to the top.

I notice the new server has an auto save feature for replies.

Very useful as I have sometimes lost long posts in progress when I hit a wrong key. :o
