Well, let's see if it works.

Customer came in with this frame. I was able to sell him a different frame, but he's still curious if I can find this one as well.
This is a good customer and I feel a little that he is testing me, see how far I'm willing to go to help... I might be wrong, but told him I would try and see what I could find out.

Anyone, any suggestions?

Definitely closed corner gilded.
Any of the Closed Corner houses could have done it.

Are there identifying marks on the back that could indicate age or source?
Could be numbers or initials ?

Did he give you an idea of "where" it might be from?

It could have been made in Boston. There are a couple of good gilders in the city.

That probably didn't help much :-(

If I turn my monitor on it's side, it looks just fine.
Sorry, I don't recognize the manufacturer of that closed corner frame.

If it is really a closed corner gold leaf, (or metal leaf gold), AMCI, CDNV etc, could replicate it if you ask them.

Except for gravity defying features, of course....;)

Silver leaf with the gold being toned shellac. It's a wild card to look sort of pre-Raphaelite. Bron, Terry, Cornel or I could replicate it.

The base profile is pretty wonky.... is it a composite glue up?

Amazing how they got it to hang on the wall like that.

One of them there anti-gravity frames.:D

Funny guys!!! :D don't know why it did that....not how I imported in iPhoto, but oh well....just turn your monitor!!!

Anyway; this frame is ordered by the artist and sold with her artwork. My customer will try to find out if the artist is willing to part with the information, but also wanted me to find out more.

Size is 16 x 20, it did have some scribbles on the back, I'll ask customer to bring the frame back in so I can take a picture of that as well.
Now, my customer can order this from the artist, but I have the feeling there is no love lost between them...

The silver parts are a very light gold; has yellow tint to it.
How would I be able to tell if it's composite glue up???? Sorry, don't have the experience so might be a stupid question....

Fellow Grumbler, Bron can do it for you. Unfortunately I've already told him he works too cheap!

;)

Yiva,

If there are no marks on the back, then it's based on the frames of Frederick Harer, an East Penn. framer. Harer usually signed his.

Yes, with some accurate measurements, it could be duplicated, in both white and yellow karet gold, or aluminum and metal leaf.

Thanks Bron, I PM-ed you as well.

I don't have the frame here, customer wasn't willing to leave it with me, so I will ask him to bring it back in and I will take measurements and also photo of back. I do remember some scribbles, but nothing else.

Thanks!
