Mat smacker

Yes, two reasons -

1) If I'm doing lots of mats my hand gets "bruised'.
2) Even if your hands are clean, oils are transferred onto mats and may darken over time.
We have a piece that was framed years ago by Bob's mother and there is a perfect outline of a hand that has appeared (darkened) over the years.

The reason for the Mat Smacker is that pressure sensitive adhesives are sensitive to pressure. Just puching on the mats doesn't create musche pressure. Smacking them with a Mat Samckewr or a rubber mallet WILL create a lot more pressure.

So will a vacuum dry mount press - about 14 lbs pressure on both the front and back of the mats.

A couple of small glops of white glue between the mats is a lot more permanent.

WE have one.

We framed it in a Boxer frame with two extentions. Along with a Dexter.

We were careful to glaze it with clear glass and backed it with corrigated kraft board. :D

BTW, "Mat Smacker" is also the nickname of Ramone Rodriguez who fights out of The Black Diamond Syndicate gym in Janesville, Wisconsin! Just a piece of useless information!

I just came to the conclusion today that oils from one's hands would only be a problem for youse guys with CMCs assembling double or more layer mats.

Those of us with old fashioned straight line cutters who are cutting the outer mat, affixing the inner mat(s) and THEN cutting them are doing so from the BACK!!! And if you are cutting a double mat on a CMC you have to "join" them from the FRONT to eyeball the widths! Right???

THIS is why I have always thought Mat Smackers were silly - and I use a Solo Glue Riter to join mats so I use little pressure - I am getting to the point where I absolutely HATES any kind of ATG tape - I waste more of it than I utilize.

Will someone please tell me what on earth a Mat Smacker is? I seem to have missed something here. I thought about the oily hands thing after reading this this morning, and used a roller today. First time I've done that in all the years I've been framing. Felt weird. But it sure did stick! The roller had something on it. Had to cut the entire double mat again because I couldn't get the inner mat off without tearing. Thanks a lot. Now...what's a Mat Smacker???
