Heard yesterday that 2 more matboard core mills have just closed down, including the one that manufactures for Bainbridge, Peterboro & Rupaco. If this is correct, it leaves only 1 core mill left in the USA, leaving the cupboard pretty bare for the suppliers concerned, not to mention the kaos it will cause for the thousands of framers globaly who use these brands. If the bulk of our mats are inevitably headed to China for manufacturing, what does this mean for our standards & benchmarks? Can anyone shed some light on this for me please. Scary thought really!!!

Don't have any real information but was told by Hurlock 2 years ago that Crescent had been buying up companies and taking their equipment out of service. The theory was that by taking the used equipment out of service there would be very little competition since new equipment ran 20 times the cost of used.

At the same time framers here can not get corner samples from Crescent. One possibility is that Crescent is planning an entirely revised line that is made up of the best of the little guys.

Do you have any resources of information that we can track down more dirt.
