I'm looking for a new mat board supplier. It seems that me current supplier keeps getting higher everytime i go to buy more mats. Does any one have a suggestion? I currently buy bainbridge mats.

Most major matboard companies have cheaper matboards. They are usually recommended for the low end productions shops, but that shouldn't stop you. Most have cores which will yellow rather quickly, but they also sell white core versions.

Bainbridge's value brand is Canterbury

Crescent's value brand is Berkshire

Peterboro's value brand is Hampton

The cost of these value boards can be less then half the price of the main line boards, depending on the quantity you order.

I'm just guessing from your previous posts that you don't buy mat board on a weekly basis like most of us do. Over the past couple of years we have seen several price increases on mat boards and it will continue in the future. Price increases once or more a year has been the norm and should be expected going forward.

going forward.

Oh, No!!!! The "going forward" virus has hit the USA.

Next time I hear that I'm going to **** somebody.

I was watching a reporter on the news interviewing a guy who was caught speeding. He would be more careful "going forward". I puked.

....as we progress through the years (is that one better). Going forward takes me back to the good old days when I was young and had conversations with my father. There was going forward in the economy as well as going forward in behavioral issues. If that is just catching on way up North there seems to be a lag of many decades.

Then I've been lucky.

Every frikkin' politician up here has the disease. Shoot them all.

Peterboro is my favorite. They offer all types of matboards, which are at least as good quality as any other brand, and they generally sell for lower wholesale prices. That said, maybe the brand name does not matter in your case. If you buy from only one matboard distributor, that may be your problem. Competition is a good thing.

Are you buying the right type of matboards for your framing? By their generic descriptions, here are the types available, in order of quality and price:

1. Museum - 100% cotton fiber, suitable for all framing

2. Conservation - Virgin alpha cellulose fiber, suitable for most preservation framing

3. White Core - Recycled alpha cellulose fiber, suitable for non-preservation, upscale-decorative framing expected to endure a couple of decades

4. Acid Free - Buffered wood pulp fiber, suitable for decorative framing of moderate longevity

5. Regular - Unbuffered wood pulp fiber, suitable for only the most economical framing, where longevity is not expected

I am a framer, a satisfied user of Peterboro matboards, and a consultant to the company.
