So it seems many of us are experiencing reduced sales and could use a boost. What kind of successful marketing/ advertising/ promos, etc, do some of you utilize. I've tried many things, but word of mouth seems the best for us. The other neat thing I did was purchase a mailing list for people in my zip code that made over XX amount a dollars yearly. Then I sent them a short well crafted letter introducing myself, qualifications, how good we are, and some of our unique collections. We used stamps rather than bulk mailing with the idea that letter would more likely be opened rather than trashed.

... word of mouth seems the best for us. ...

EXACTLY, so build on that! Get out and meet new people! Be visible, which gets and keeps people talking! Prime the word-of-mouth pump by going to "networking events" and speaking to groups and just plain be in front of as many people as possible!

When you're visible people remember and talk about you. When you sit in your cave few people remember you.

I handed out about 3500 business cards last year. Get out there!

I had some referral flyerys printed up in color with a promo on them. We put them with every pickup that goes out. There is a promo for the current customer to return and a promo for them to pass to their friend. We just started this last week and have had one new customer so far. Inexpensive to print but factor you promo into your COGS.

Also in regards to sales, I don't sell anything but straight up custom work. No candles, gee gaws, readymades. And I just sell a wee little bit of art. However, we do have a few awesome framed original art pieces framed spectacularly if I might say so. A little welded steel frames here, a little reclaimed corregated there. I seem to have a fondness for bigger items 32 x 40 and up. My store is 'different' looking. So a few pieces really stand out in their boldness.

Yes, we shot our second commercial last August. We really pushed the visualization software in that spot. I wanted some way to track people who come in because of the commercial. Now, people that see the commercial mention the visualization and it kind of helps me track.
