Mark your calendars for June 13th!

Marc Bluestone is coming to San Diego. In a special presentation, Marc will
present:

No Nonsense, Just Profit - Bottom-Line Basics To Build Your Business

What do you call selling more than 125,000 custom frames to more than 34,000
customers? Marc Bluestone would call it 8 years of learning stuff the hard
way. In "No Nonsense, Just Profit", you'll get the benefit of many
hard-learned lessons without much of the associated pain as Marc presents
his views on merchandising, sales, pricing, marketing & staff management.

No matter the size of your business, you will benefit from this discussion
of fundamental, real world issues that affect sales and profitability. Marc
will challenge you to look at your business differently and you will leave
with ideas that can be implemented immediately. Bring your employees too,
there is much to learn from one of the best instructors and retailers I have
ever met!

Marc Bluestone is President of FrameGroup Incorporated. Located in St.
Louis, Missouri, FrameGroup operates eleven custom framing stores, a mobile
custom framing gallery and a wholesale framing operation employing more than
50 people. Marc also writes regularly for Picture Framing Magazine and is a
dynamic speaker and instructor. I have been to Saint Louis to see his
stores and he continually sets the standard for retailers in the art and
framing industry.

Before starting his own business, Marc held retail management positions
including sales, merchandising and operations and was vice-president of a
publicly held retail company. In his classes, Marc presents a fresh
perspective on sales, marketing and management issues that challenge
everyone to bring their business to the next level.

Rob,
Just an odd question from left field:

Who is underwriting the majority of the speaking and traveling and lodging costs?

PPFA National?
PPFA Local?
Or other (please specify)?

thanks,
marc

Marc-

In the spirit of increasing membership and providing regional education, the Saint Louis Chapter and the San Diego Chapter are working together on this one.

Marc Bluestone and I agreed that for the price of an airline ticket to the respective cities, we would provide a program at no cost to the respective chapters. The San Diego Chapter is paying for Marc's ticket and I am speaking in Saint Louis on September 9th and they are paying for mine. Food, lodging, transportation, etc. are our personal responsibility.

I have heard of other chapters doing something like this with various framers "hosting" the speaker in their homes and providing transportation for them as well.

As far as the San Diego Chapter is concerned, the cost of Marc's ticket is coming from our treasury where we have funds left from our very successful table top show. Food for our event (this time) is being donated by Nielsen-Bainbridge. Door prizes are donated by other very generous vendors (and we are talking hundreds of dollars of merchandise)and they are distributing flyers for us with their deliveries. Depending on how many people we have attend, it is possible that the $10 portion of the "admission" could cover most or all of the cost of the ticket.

We are receiving support from national in the form of a mailer and blast e-mails. National has also offered to host a cocktail party for us (we chose not to do so at this event but we will host a "post holiday party" in January.)

National will also provide a National Board Member to attend one of our functions to be available for questions/suggestions and answers but we will take them up on this offer for a future meeting as well.

Rob-I thought I would bring this up to the top as a reminder of this weeks meeting. I think Marc's presentation is worth my trip over, and if this old know-it-all thinks he can learn something, imagine what mere mortals can benefit.

We're looking forward to meeting you guys again and swapping some tales

Thanks, Bob you beat me to it.

We have great food and refreshments courtesy of Nielsen Bainbridge. The vendors have come though with some FANTASTIC dood prizes. And, of course Marc's presentation, all for $10 for PPFA members, or $35 for non members, ($25 of which is applicable towards a membership). JRB we would love to see you, and you woulod become a PPFA member through 2003!

Hope to see you there.

Rob, thank you for the kind, personal invitation. I am sure this is going to be a fantastic event and oportunity to learn & also meet other framers. I unfortunatly, will be unable to attend. Please tell everyone I said Hi.

John
