Make yourself a "Framers Brick" with a brick wrapped in Saran Wrap (or real suede if you are an upper end shop) to use as a dampening mass against your frame when your driving in your fitting points. this will keep the frame from bouncing around with the impact of the point driver.

Since you refuse to "tape seal" your frames for various reasons - this will help eliminate a lot of the dust you end up chasing in your frames.

This especially help when framing pastels as the impact from the point guns tends to shake pastel dust off the painting.

Greg, I use a 2' piece of moulding that is about 2" x 2". Are you saying that it would be better if it was padded?

I have always used a block of rock maple about 3x4x3/4. I have "mental" written on it. Mental block, get it???

Never thought to call it a dampening mass, though...

"Dampening Mass" now there's a phrase you don't hear everyday!

I'm more likely to hear "Here! Hold this sledge hammer against this 2x4 to back it up while I drive this 16-penny nail!"

"Framer's Brick" - now that's cool!

I've got a one foot length of 2 x 3 wrapped in a small piece of carpet. Seems to work.

Can I use the length of moulding that I beat my employees with?

Actually, I've been using my hand, and I haven't yet driving any points into my hand. Yet.
