I am looking for good software to create bar code labels with space for additional descriptive text and logo.

For creating bar code labels for General Inventory items in our shop, we use our POS software, SpecialtySoft either printing to full sheets via Reports or using their Labeler function. Labeler can print to Dymo or Zebra label printers.

I also create small custom designed labels using the Dymo software where I can link the bar code to one of the fields and maintain an inventory list of ID numbers. Perhaps the Dymo software comes in a version for MAC's?

If Dymo doesn't work...see if Zebra has a MAC version. Found This for MAC's - Dymo.

We do it with Lifesaver on avery laser sheets or on the Dymo thermal printer.

If the POS doesnt do it, you can use a special program or even do it with a word processor/mail merge.
 
Isn't it fun to find that you already have what your looking for on your computer. I know from talking with you that you use FrameReady, and like the others you can print custom barcodes through it.

I should wear a dunce cap, but I have our upcoming shop expansion as an excuse. We are working very long days right now without a break to think straight. Thanks for pointing this out, Dave. And of course Carol tried to call me with the answer. Talk about proactive customer service! Carol, thanks for trying to reach me! I will call back when I am at that stage.
 
Lot of freeware for drawing and exporting barcodes.

But I have a question about Office Word.

Is that software also doing a control-calculating for the final control-number at the end of the barcodes?

It is not an Office Word service.... It is a font application method...

The answer to your question is at the link I posted.... did you not read it before you made your comments !!!
