I posted earlier about finding moulding for this monster. It's going to be about 48 x 75, and would have been larger but I told her plexi only came 48 wide.

So: gave her the cut Sintra, she went home and mounted tons of 1932 newspaper clippings, Broadway show programs, etc to surroung the 38 x 50 poster making a mat of all the clippings. Now here's the problem. I want to simply attach the poster to this Sintra with the newspaper clippings, etc already on the piece. I'm told drymounting won't work with Sintra--it doesn't take--so thinking about a simple Spraymount of the poster, laying the UV plexi on top and that's that. compression of the plexi, newspapers and poster hold everything in place.

This is NOT a conservation project. it's a fun piece for a lawyer's office who just loves the poster so we're not talking archival.

so bottom line question after all this rambling: how to mount an oversize poster to Sintra when the surround for the piece already has newspaper articles attached??

3M ProSpray is/was the best adhesive for mounting to Sintra. Borden has a water based spray adhesive that is claimed to be similar to ProSpray. I have not tried it yet but it would be my suggestion

I am saving a couple of cartridges of ProSpray for times just like this.

Make sure it is a fresh can. Spray glue does have a shelf life. Call 3M for the technical info. We purchase ours from home depot rather than a framing distributor, this way we know the stock has been rotated due to the volume of sales, if nothing else. A friend told me there is an outfit in Florida selling a spray glue that, so far has proved to be as good as, if not better than, Super 77. They use phone solicitation to peddle their products.

3M, seems to be the winner with our Map mounters.
That's all they do it with when it Sentra.

The other thing is that they don't press it. [With a lot of experience and talent] they "float" it over the board and let it adhear by it's own weight....
weird to watch, but then they do it all day.

Be careful which spray glue you use...

3M SprayMount #6065 is not intended as a permanet adhesive. It was developed to be removable and low tack. It's primary use is to do paste up the old fashioned pre-computer days way. I don't believe it is acid free either.

SprayMent and Spray 77 is actually the same product. It is meant to be permanet but is in no way archival. I had a friend adhere carpet to the inside sides of his van with Spray 77 back in the '70's.

3M Photomount #6094 is acid free and would probably be the best 3M spray adhesive to use for this project. It is non-yellowing.

Be aware that the longer you allow 3M spray adhesives to dry after spraying before you bond the less adherence you get.

I use to be a 3M Graphic Arts Division distributor, but that was a few years back and the products may have been revised and numbers changed since then. Check with a knowledgeable supplier or 3M directly.

Also...Unless you've already had all your yuppie larvae, use adequate ventillation whenever spraying adhesives.

hannah and dave: love huffin' that stuff. what a high!!!

Seriously, though, the lady artist already used a spraymount adhesive to adhere the articles, a little floated over the sintra so there's a low tack already in place. Think just a little reinforcement will help, nothing too aggressive. Plus, I'd bet the static in the plexi may help hold things in place.

Thanks all for the input

How about sticking it to a sheet of mat or something like it, then attaching that to the sintra? It may help to keep it flat a little longer...
