I didn't want to frankenthread Jay's website thread, so here is what I'm responding to:

seeing if it "works" on other operating systems is a good idea, wish I`d thought of it sooner.I sent my temp.url to a number of close friends etc.to let them see what they thought before going out into actual cyberspace.None of the contacts with a Mac could navigate the thing! The webmaster managed to fix the trouble, but it was nerveracking. He even ended up putting a spiffy help page on there in case of problems.oh,and Jay, Your site is lookin GOOD!!!..course I like black backgrounds. (www.prism-studios.org)...Yeah,it`s mostly 3-d,but It`s different! L.

OMG, are you Laura Reynolds? Why have you been hiding your work from us???? It is AMAZING! I will never understand how you paint on feathers!

GRUMBELRS, CHECK - IT - OUT:

We need to have an up close and personal Grumbler only art show!

AWWW GEE, Thanks... I have been at this odd occupation for 20+ years! seems to be working!Glad you like the feathers, especially happy they stand up to the scrutiny of all the CPF`s out there!!! Painting feathers isn`t as hard as it looks, let me know if ya want me to" spill my guts" L.R.:icon19:

Not much to this really..use a good quality sealer(matte/semi gloss finish)BEFORE you paint the artwork on the feather. It sticks the fibers together and stiffens the feather to a more canvas-like consistency.I generally cheat a bit and shave the quill(from the back) flat so that it doesn`t take up as much room in the frame.Do this before you paint,I have ruined a piece when the blade slipped! I use old matcutter blades for that.I also sometimes trim the top of the feather(scissors),Ex.The Golden Eagle is on a wild turkey tail feather, they have a straight tip edge.I trimmed it round to simulate the Eagle`s feather, and to fit the oval mat.I use acylic paints, and seal the painting with the same fixitive as before.Happy to actually be able to contribute something here! L.R.

Yeah, there are lots of painted feathers out there.I did an ebay search..LOTS there! I`m trying to make them actual art pieces, most of the ones I have seen are poorly presented,I want to be different...Or maybe I`m just anal(explains why I would do a 6x12" fabric wrap..).Just wish I had more on the site,I sold most as they were done, and didn`t photograph them! Now I just need to work on my photography skills on the flat art. L.

Yup...You found me...... L.R.

OK - now that we have all admired your website and mined your mind for feather-painting tips, Luddite - would you mind sharing what exactly your Avatar represents - it is so teensy - I see a long-nosed white (or mebbe black and white) something with big pink ears holding a frame. Dog? Cat? Kangaroo???

Oh that..He`s one of my sculptures. A dragon holding his self portrait. The entire sculpture is around 18" tall. He is on the site(I`ll try n` scare up the address here later..) L.R.

Thanks, Laura - that was making me nuts trying to figure out what exactly the creature was.

Your work is wonderful!!! Wow.

What is the medium for that piece?

Widget is made of Super sculpey mostly.I buy it in 24 lb. boxes. The eyes are glass taxiderist eyes. The body is fabric with a wire armature. He is mounted on a round cherry finish wood base.I had fun with this one.He has paint splatters, artist tools and asst. "creative workshop debris" scattered all over( heck there`s even a dead matcutter blade on the base,yes..I killed the edge with a whetstone first.)!I`ve actually gotten sort of fond of the critter, but i`m still selling him. L.R.
