Just wonder if any gurus might be able to help me. I came in this AM and when I attempted to log in I got a "No local profile exists" and then "A local profile cannot be stored" message.

I'm logging in to a domain, and when I do, I can see under Docs & Settings that my profile info (DNW-XDomain) is still there, but for some reason it is not using it. I tried logging in and out, as well as rebooting both the workstation and the server several times, to no avail. Finally I tried creating a new user, figuring I could copy my profile info to it. Guess what? I get the same messages when I attempt to use the new one = "No Local Profile Exists" and "A Local Profile Cannot be Saved".

The strange thing is that there is one other computer in the office, that when I log in to it to do maintenence as the Domain Admin I have the same problem. But this computer has been working fine for over a year. I shut it down Weds and started it this AM and now it doesn't like me any more.

The only way I can get my profile to save is to create a local only-account.

That's what I'm using at the moment, but it's a real pain, and all my defaults have to be re-set.

David,
What OS are you running to manage your domain? It almost sounds as though a group permission has been modified to prevent local profiles. This is possible, but I do not remember where the setting is. You might search microsoft's knowledge base at www.support.microsoft.com to see if there is an example posted there. Good Luck....

Turns out the old profile was apparently corrupted - it was shown with a status of "Backup".

I "fixed" it by creating a new local account using the local "Administrator" account, then creating an account with the same name in the (NT 4) domain. I then was able to copy my old profile information to the new profile and have most of my settings. There are a few things that don't get copied over.

Glad to hear it worked out. I wish my IT day was working that well. Appears that I'm losing both drives on my server. Not good.... Luckily I moved all file storage to another server earlier this year...
