I'm doomed. I lost all my e-mail addresses and my bookmarks (favorites). Don't know what happened, everything was fine until I went to e-mail someone and Poof!...gone! And all my bookmarks! And now it won't let me "add bookmarks" either! I'm such a computer doofus, I don't know what to do, how to retreive them (if I can!)

So everytime I want to come back to the Grumble I have to enter it in the Search bar.

Uh-oh. I just remembered, a breaker switch that runs the v-nailer compressor switched off earlier and it's the same breaker for the computer and fax/credit card machine. I had to turn the computer back on. Oh no, what else have I lost?? It's done that before, but I never lost anything on the computer then. Ive tried turning it off and back on again, thinking it would reboot all that stuff, but noooo. Carp. Help help.

Aaaahhhh. Everything's back. It healed itself. I turned it off again, asked it to pleeease come back, patted it, walked away, cut a mat, turned it back on...all's well. whew.

Sorry. I don't know how to delete my own thread, so pretend like it isn't here. Thanks.

Hoo-haa-hoo-haa-hoo-haa...uh-oh, I'm dizzy.
Good thing we're 3 hours later out here, huh? Everyone out there's in bed, and by morning that will all be buried, right Handy? Embarrassing.
(what was in the box with the little red x in it?)

Lost my Bookmarks! Aaagh!
Here in Wisconsin, we say "Aargh!" when that happens.

Your shut-it-down-count-to-ten-then-pray-and-turn-it-back-on approach is my personal universal problem-solving strategy.

It works pretty well with my car. Not so well when someone leaves the freezer door open for a few days.

Ron, I say "Argh" too... I just forgot my r in the post-traumatic losing of my bookmarks. (To be honest, "Argh" wasn't really what I said when that happened! I translated it for Grumble purposes, I knew I'd get bleeeped)Think about that next time you go to your bookmarks and realize how dependent on that we are! Or I am, anyway. Anyone else?? And the drop-down address thingy on e-mail.

Man, that was like losing my address book one year...still getting complaints about folks getting skipped at Christmas card time! ("Wha...? You're too good for us now? Can't even send a card once a year at Christmas? No phone call either? What kind of a niece are you, was it something I said? I should tell your mother!")

And yes Jo, that was a good do-your-backup lesson.
Guess what I'll be doing today?

Funny how different regional dialects are.

Here in New England we say, “Ooogh!”.

“Aargh” is reserved for when we drop a case of Museum Glass onto concrete.

So Bill, Aargh is real serious swearing in New England?

I fixed him Val........

Chill and find your zen......... LOL!

Glad you got your info back Val. May I respectfully suggest that you plug your computer into a circuit other than the one with the compressor on it? The fluctuations of current can't be doing your computer any good, and there is constant risk of data loss. Another help would be to get a Uninterruptible Power Supply (battery backup unit) to plug your computer through. They are not that expensive, and they include surge protection too. If the power goes off you'll have about 15-20 minutes of backup power to save your work and shut down properly, or to get the power back on. Good UPS units are made by APS, Belkin, and others.
 Rick
