Just finished reading all the response about Michaels. Looking for a change. I am! Open own shop? All you guys that are looking for experience, and say it's so hard to find, give me an email at sumik@wildmail.com. I have been framing for 8 years. For past three been running Frame shop and art supplies, and wedding invitations. Boss only rarely comes in.. Get calls weekly from bill collectors. They are cutting down on art supplies and I'm worried. Don't have the capital to open own store. Somebody help me!!!

I do hope you have gotten some off the newsgroup responses.

If you are looking for a job and want to work for a good shop, for a good boss here is my suggestion. You probably have about 10 distributors in your area. Think over which distributor's rep and distributor gives your shop the best customer service. Then contact the rep or go direct to the owner/mamger of the distributor and ask them who they know is looking for employees or who would be the best shop to work for if they were hiring. Then follow up with their suggestions. Ask the rep, if you know him well, if he/she would give you a reference. A good rep or owner should be able to give you a list of the best shops to work for after a couple of minutes of thought. If he can't, then you've got the wrong rep and try someone else.

Alan, that is very good advise. A good salesman would love to see a good framer joined up with a good frame shop! (If the framer does good, it reflects well on the referal from the salesman.)
