I came across quite a few Grumblers in Atlanta who never post but who describe themselves as “Lookers” and "Readers"….this was a very nice experience…..I had often wondered if there was just a hard core of us who use the Grumble…..but from my experience in Atlanta there are many “Lookers” who find the Grumble a useful place and that in my view is a good thing………now I know the Grumble is much more than just those of us who post……

For all you “Lookers” and "Readers"….welcome to the Grumble……perhaps you might like to say hello sometime……. and just let us know that you are around….no need for anything else ……..though if you don’t want to do that it’s OK you are still very welcome around here…..

Regards to all…..

Dermot,

You're making me laugh. "Lookers" in American lingo are the likes of Barb Pelton. "lurkers" are silent visitors to a forum.

I share your sentiments in welcoming lurkers to join us and participate in the discussions.

Pat :D :D

Pat they were very clear that they were “Lookers” and "Readers" ………..and not “Lurkers” …..I asked most of them to repeat what they said……..and most confirmed that they only “Looked” and "Read"……I'm quite aware what the other meaning for “Lookers” is we use it in this part of the world also……I’m more that happy to accept there description of how they use the Grumble as “Lookers”…..

Oh and BTW some of them were “Lookers”……in more ways than one..

I've always found the term 'lurker' to be funny. There is almost an anti-social aspect to the word for me. If there was a 50 year old man lurking around a playground someone might call the police.

And if someone was lurking around your house, you would hardly invite them in for a drink. Though, I suppose if they were a real looker . . . ;)

Whatever they are called, Dermot's expirence shows just how many of 'us' there are out there!

In the early days of computer message boards, these people were described as "read-only members". Eventually, some very opinionated members were described as "write-only" by others.

I use this forum for researching into the framing business, but rarely post a question, because it seems that just when I have one, the topic appears like magic from someone else, and within a few replies gets covered pretty well. In addition, there is a large archive of postings, as I learned when I brought one back from the dead.

Hmmm, not really.

But there are times when the human experience is just too fantastic to say no with a certainty.

I would call this type of thing something similar to a principle in marketing. It says that the right product at the wrong time won't sell if it's not on people’s minds. And if you want to produce the next big thing, figure out what will be on everyone’s minds 6 months from now.

They say that at the US patent office there will be a flood of applications all for very similar ideas. It's as if there is a commonly experienced problem and something will occur that sparks the solution in the heads of many people all at once, even non-inventor types.

So much behavior stems from a common experience. You know, pop culture.

Yada, yada, yada.

I must confess to being a lurking looker...or a reading lurker.....or maybe a looker reading...now I'm confused!!!
Oh well, I'm a photographer/photo lab owner who wants to add framing to her shop but cannot afford to. I do little things like cutting & decorating mats and making simple frames but I am nowhere near the abilities of most all of you folks. I enjoy the friendliness of this forum and I just plain like it here. Thanks for letting me lurk outside and peak thru the windows!
