Since Larson Juhl is going to continue the on-line ordering I signed up. It would be helpful if those that currently use it or have used it in the past would provide some benefits vs. detriments discussion. Also some pointers on how they use it would be helpful.

They are sending via mail a packet of information but I haven't received it yet.

- One question that comes to mind for me is whether you can put orders in and have them accumulate during the week so that you would only receive one invoice for a shipment/delivery.

- Another is when you specify shipping is "truck delivery" meaning their normal delivery by their truck? I would presume so but would like to try it the first of the week before I actually get my packet of information.

- If you have special prices worked out are they reflected in the system when you get a quote or place an order?

- Where have you experienced any problems with using the system?

I could get answers about the above by calling but thought I'd stimulate some discussion here for others to see too.

Thanks all for any responses.

Hi Dave,

  • You can enter items into a "Quote" area and then convert by line item into an order once a week.
  • Every delivery option that you currently have is available to be selected
  • Your current pricing tier is shown.
  • It is not like any other consumer shopping site that you may have used.
Good things:
  • I use it to check stock and my order history instead of order placement.
  • I use it to check the UPS status of orders that ship from a different warehouse. There are certain distribution centers that have more problems than others, so I try to avoid them.
Issues that I have had:
  • It is quicker for me to call the order into Atlanta than to input it into LJDirect.
  • Speed - very slow to load. I just checked and it took almost 30 seconds & I'm not on a dialup connection.
  • The main history is not by order number that you can click to get more details. It is a history of line items that you must page through and watch for the specific order numbers.
  • Freight charges (order # 99999999) are first in the order history which means you must page forward through however many screens to get to the most recent order history. If you complain enough times, LJ will remove them but it doesn't take long to accumulate several screens full. Realize this is every freight charge, even if No Charge, for samples, models or orders.

One thing I don't like is the following response from them:

"However, at this point we do not have the capability to accept on-line orders on credit card accounts (this is because of the credit card approval process). Unfortunately, this means that as long as your account is set up with credit card terms, it will lock you out of ljdirect."

This is exactly why I used the system only once. I can talk a lot faster than I can type I dont talk all that fast. Perhaps the new and improved system will suit me better.
Still have to laud LJ for listening and responding for those that like and use the system.

This is the kind of input I'm looking for ...thanks to all responding!

When I first login in the morning it does take 30 seconds to load but after that it only takes 3 seconds to load if I login the same day.

When I call in to Atlanta it takes a lot longer for them to answer.

When I was on the ljcustomers site the other day I didn't see where you sign up for online orders. Did I just miss it? Where is it?

I might utilize this program because we write up our orders on Saturday and call them in by 10am on Monday. Would be nice to input the orders on Saturday and not worry with it on Monday.

Thanks.

You have to call and get a username and password. They got back to me with a phone call and an email with the information the same day.

I do get an error which I bypass about their certificate being expired for the site. Anyone else have this problem?

I put in my order for tomorrows delivery just now.

I like it.

It was easy and took very little time.

I guess I'll see if everything came out right tomorrow.

It was actually a really cool process.

I just did mine too, I wish my other suppliers would get online ordering:(

I just did it. Not so easy. It had trouble reading a mat number -- BTM8321V. I used the line notes to indicate what I really wanted, in case there's a difference between BTM8321 and BTM8321V.
