Anyone know of some catchy lingo to let walk in traffic know that sometimes we are out designing at the home or office of a client. We don't want to lose customers, but we want them to know it is better for them to make an appt., so as not to miss us. We are a smaller type frame shop, specializing in servicing clients outside of the shop. thx. suz.

"Gone Fishin'?"

Truly, Suzy, why not just set some regular hours?
For instance, make it a point to always have the showroom staffed ,say, Mon., Tues., and Weds., and reserve Thurs. and Fri. for being "out in the field" or "on a consultation"... And Sat. by appontment only. Something like that.
It has always been my opinion that the simpler and more regular your shop hours, the better.
I can't think of a faster way to frustrate regular and potential customers than by having "by chance" hours only.
Of course, if you are "appointment only" at all times then there is no explanation needed. Yes? Your regular customers would indeed be aware that you do a lot out of the shop.

Post limited hours and then
"other times by appointment or by chance"

When I was in high school, I saw an artist on the sidewalk in Gatlinburg, Tn. doing portraits. He had a sign that said "Portraits if hungary or in the mood". I decided right then that I wanted to be an artist.

I took the past two Saturdays off. One to keep an oak tree from wearing a hole in my roof during the visit of Tropical Storm Gabrielle, and the next to have a 2 day weekend before the holidays kick in.
I had a client come in the following Wednesday and ask if the hours of operation posted next to my door were merely suggestions?
Establish set hours that work for your business.
