You have no idea how much I HATE to bring this up.

I am looking for a company who can mount a vintage poster to linen.

I've been through the archives. I got to relive the whole edp movie poster fiasco, which actually made the recent Grumble rumble seem pretty tame. It WAS kind of nice to see the Grumble community united in its attempt to thwart the invasion of nasty outside forces.

I heard Edie ask, at least six times on a 70+ post thread, about linen mounting of posters. Nobody ever answered her.

I gather this is not a do-it-yourself project.

I'll check the HH archives as well, though I've never actually done that.
 
Hi Ron! I am not sure if this will help. Decor Sources 2003 lists Posters: Vintage, Originals. Page 150-151. Some of the companies note that they offer "special services". Perhaps a visit to their web sites or a call to them might locate someone who does this.
We have a place here in Seattle that does, but I am sure that there is someone closer to you.
Decor had an article a few years ago about vintage posters when they were all the rage. I can't find the article right now, but there might have been a mention in the article about places that offer this service.

ron: as my memory serves, didn't Uncle Bogie (seth in Manhattan) do this? I seem to recall he was into the vintage market. If not, check out the mags from lst month on the vintage poster show and they listed the association whose name escapes me since it's 3:46 a.m and all my stuff is in the store.

O and by the bye: this is NOT something for the amateur. And contrary to populr belief, they still ARE all the rage; at least the originals. Plan to buy six to 12 when in Atlanta. They do sell throughout the year altho capital outlay is hideous for them

Last month I posted the same question.

I recieved a few good responses from grumblers, but it was like pullin teeth.

I cant remember exactly who the grumbler was off the top of my head, but they suggested that I wrap a backing with linen, then cut slits through the linen where the hinges would go.

This worked remarkably well and looked great.
I hope it holds up though.

No, we're not talking about a canvas transfer.

We're talking about mounting a (usually) vintage poster on linen, or some would say, canvas.

It is, I believe, and arduous process not lightly entered into by the inexperienced. I was able to find some information in the HH archives (much of it from Marc Lizer) and concluded that the process is complex and, probably, expensive.

I have passed on the information from here and HH to the interested parties. That's to all who offered suggestions.

I called Poster Conservation as referred to by Lester after looking at their web site.

Their price list suggests dealer discounts off of the posted "retail prices" on the site:

The above pricing is for linen backing only. Restoration such as washing, bleaching, tape removal or in-painting is extra. Estimates are given on all restoration.

These retail prices are based on sending 1 - 5 posters.
Please inquire on discounts for sending quantity.

Dealers always receive a discount.
Please inquire for your Dealer rates.

Remember - The more you send the better the price!

I used the above information to quote a basic mount for a client only to fine out that the prices listed are their base wholesale prices and not retail prices. :eek: :eek: They give a volumne discount only!

Yes, I said plus freight and insuance and that the price would be subject to a final quote from the conservator.

I talked with their represenative and complained about the misrepresentation (ambugity) of what was stated on their price list. The talk was to deaf ears.
