I am framing a textile piece which is being floated on a linen covered backing board. The spacers are also linen covered. I've used Fusion 4000 to adhere the linen but when I cut the spacers the linen frays. How can I prevent this?
If you paint or roll a thin layer of artists'
acrylic gloss medium onto the back side of the
linen and let it dry, before you mount the linen
onto the spacer, that should help.
If Hugh's suggestion doesn't solve the problem, you might try wrapping the linen around the shims. I do it using a heat reactivated PVA fabric glue, but the Acrylic medium works as well.
