About to buy some POS software. I'm a MAC user, so Frameready makes sense. But which is better?

Lifesaver or Frameready?

They are both good systems;

However, they both have demo disks. Try them out and decide based on your feelings(thought logic) rather what someone else says.... You will be the final user.

PS: I use FrameReady

Lifesaver here, but I know you will find many others that swing towards Frameready. Mike Labbe has a neat comparison between most if not all of the POS programs out there. Check it out.

I evaluated both systems and they are both good POSs.
A better question to ask is:
Will this POS fit the way I run my business?
This is a harder question to answer becuase there are a lot of variables.
A few things to look at are:
  • Will it fit my frameshop's workflow? (from order taking to cutting mats, moulding to order pickup.)
  • Is the POS capable of supporting your pricing scheme for moulding, glazing, mats, mounting, etc?
  • If you have a CMC or visualization, will it integrate seamlessly?
  • If you are using bar codes, does it support bar code and bar code scanners?
  • Will it support the way I process credit cards?

just my 3 cents.

Lifesaver or Frameready?

Chevy or Ford? Puffs or Kleenex? Paper or plastic?

Everyone who uses a POS system has a preference. Often "Mine is best" because they've tried no other. But nobody's preference counts for you as much as your preference does.

As has been suggested, get the demo disks and evaluate the programs. And while you're at it, maybe you should also look at some of the others described on Mike Labbe's web site here, as well.

Go to the LIfesaver tips thread and check out Mikes signature line. He has a link to a page that compares them.

I like lifesaver, and use LifeSaver but was really impressed with FrameReady.

I like FrameReady, but then I've never tried LifeSaver.

Hope that helps ya'!

I don't see this as a choice. If you use Macs you need Frame Ready, unless Lifesaver has become cross platform.

We use mostly Macs in the shop but also have a couple of Dells, one of which is on the POS network. Frame Ready fits our needs perfectly. I don't think there is a "better."

In my opinion - there is absolutely no comparison - unless Lifesaver has drastically changed in the last year or two.

Take a good look at FrameReady, The features are unmatched, and you don't need any "workarounds" which just suggest the software is not very well designed. If its features you are looking for - FrameReady all the way.

I'd only consider another software if I needed a cheaper version, and one exists that has the features I need.

SpecialtySoft is good, but from what I understand the Lifesaver web reporting is quite sassy.

Specialty Soft has good reporting , but for the rest...

Get the demos!

I use Specialty Soft and like it.

We work primarily on Macs so all the demos except Frame Ready were not operable. That might have changed. We are extremely happy with Frame Ready. Ask Carol at FR to give you a full list of their feature set. Then compare. Also investigate the web sites and compare. Then compare the sales support as you are investigating. We were very impressed with Frame Ready and found that the tech support is on par with their very informative sales approach. It's a great product. But I do have to say that I am not familiar with the others.

better yet-----see if you can talk one of your biz-buddies into hanging out in their shop/perched on their shoulder for a day or 2----NO better way to get the tast of/feel of than actually dipping your hands into the mess!(there are many nuances that will pop up that are not too straight forward that have more than 1 way to solve---best to see how it's done for them)....do you have CMC???? you might also think about he wiz's integrated system...not actually jad hand's on but to me, sounds like the correct way to go.
