Does anybody know who has Liberon Black Creme in stock. I have been told it is discontinued.

This is for a framer friend who was wondering if he could buy some to have around because they have been using it and like what it.

What is "Try black patinating wax."?

John

It's wax for patinating that is black. ;) Bit like liming wax but not white. Very similar to verdigis wax except not green.

It's in the Liberon range.

.....Or failing that, black boot polish.

Anyway, what I want to know is, how can you have black gilt?

Last time I purchased it (a long time ago) it was from Sepp Leaf. Try googling Liberon Gilt Cream, and a number of pages show up, and you could probably also try contacting Liberon if no luck.

Heat up some Johnson floor wax (cheap) and a chunk of black shoe polish in a double boiler. Cook for a few hours to blend well, then let cool. I made about 10lbs 30 years ago.... it's almost time to start thinking about another 5lbs.

Talas will begin to carry the Liberon product soon after they move to their new location. They might carry the product you are looking for. Liberon really makes great products!

Baer, anything wrong with straight black shoe polish?

I mix the Johnson's paste wax with some black oil paint, but too much paint and it won't dry well.

I'm just trying to locate it for a friend but maybe I'll just cook up some replacement creme and get some little containers so I can sell the home brew.

Just kidding about selling it since these are very good friends and I would just give it to them. I'll just get a tub of wax and make several colors since I hate traditional filler wax.

Jo, shoe polish has too much Vaseline to keep it soft. That's why I like the double boiler and let my waxes "burn off" the excess Vaseline so I get a harder wax.
It's not always what you put on, it's how much and what you take off.

A real secret (not any more) to black patina wax.... apply with a damp cloth. It will put on less and what you do put on spreads better as a fog instead of a streak.
