I have a legal document that is over 100 years old. It has harsh creases from being folded for many years. It also has a wax seal on it. I am thinking I do not want to try to remove creases, mainly because I am fearful I will damage the piece. What is the best way to secure the document to a piece of rag mat? Will the creases pull the hinging tape from the mat? Any suggestions?

A fine mesh fabric overlay mount would give the document good overall support, but would enable you to float mount it showing the edges.

This is a non-invasive, reversible mount with no adhesive of any kind in direct contact with the document. Check the archives for details -- try a search for "fine mesh".

If you're going to Las Vegas later this month, class #F11, "Mounting With Fine Mesh Fabrics" will be presented at the PPFA convention Thursday January 31, 9:30 to 11:30 am. It is approved for MCPF continuing education credit. Y'all come on down.

Jim,

Are you going to do the PFM Seminar in Atlantic City this fall again?

I keep missing the opportunity to take your classes.

(Maybe Baltimore?)

I would like to teach at both of those, Dave. The fine mesh fabric mounting class is fairly new, but it might be on one of those show schedules. Your PPFA chapter might scheduile that class at one of their local or regional meetings, as well.
