Hi everyone:

I am reletively new here...have not posted too often. I have been getting my shop up and running for a few months now and finally quit my full time (still working part) job. My last day was Friday so this is my first true full time day at my own business. Yippee.

I leased a Wizard and it came last week. I have to purchase an air compressor and need some advice. I know that the psi for the wizard is at least 120 psi. No problem there. However, I have a lot of space and a bit further down the road I do want to use air tools to fit and assemble ..at present I am still glue and nailing). For this reason I do not want to purchase just the minimum required for the Wizard...but something that will accomodate two or three stations (not necessarily operating at one time and a v-nailer. I can either store the thing in the basement or could build a house to keep the noice down somewhat, but of coarse I do not want it running all day and I would prefer to keep the noice level down. Can somebody give me some guidelines regarding what to purchase?.
:help:
Also, I also leased the Integrated Framer software. I do not have it installed yet...hopefully it will be this week. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or tips they could shre with me through their experience? Thanks a lot my framing people.

Welcome to the Grumble. I am a recent Wizard user too. Here's what I would recommend: If you can afford to, buy a silent air compressor. Yes, they are more expensive than others, but they are truly a pleasure to have around compared to the ear-splitting models. After doing much research I purchased a Silentaire DR500. The best prices anywhere on silent compressors is from Dixie Art Supply. You can purchase thru them (shipping is included in the price!) and the unit will be drop shipped to you directly from the manufacturer. Here is their web site:

If you just can't aford to go this route, your next best find would be a FIAC compressor. These are made in Italy. While not silent, they are more quiet than any you can buy from a store. They are also very well made. I've had one running my v-nailer for over 15 years.
I think United Mfrs carries them. However, with shipping this would be about $500, while you could get the DR500 for $679 shipped. Not a big difference.

As for PSI, the machine is rated at 114. You would set it at 100, and the regulator at the Wizard takes it down to 60. You could hook it up to your v-nailer too, since you probably won't be running them much at the same time. The only thing is you want to keep your air lines as short as possible to avoid moisture buildup, and be sure to have moisture traps near your equipment. There are some GREAT discussions about this subject on the Grumble. Use the search function to find them.

Good luck, and have fun with your new Wizard.

Franny,

I purchased a large Craftsman - don't have the size with me right now, but I have it in the basement with the hose run upstairs it runs both the wizard and the vnailer. It only goes on about once a day/evening. Can still hear it, but not very distracting. I paid about $300 for it. Runs everything I need and has more capacity. Remember, usually not everything is running at one time unless you are that BUSY and have multiple people that are that BUSY!!

Best of luck

Elaine

Hi Franny and welcome to the "G".

I see you're in Buffalo, NY. Check your internet prices out but call
the great folks at Hyatt's Graphic Supply in Buffalo and see if they can be competitive.

Don't forget about the freight factor and local service too.

Buy local when you can. Greg Hyatt's a personal friend of mine and they really are
good folks to deal with.
