I need some Grumbler advise. If you had the choice of flying into LAX or Ontario to go to the PMA convention which would you pick? Ontario is a few bucks more, but will I save time/transport fees to get to Anaheim?

Thanks West Coast Grumbers,
Susan

Ontario. 100% Ontario.

Nice little regional airport. And if you're renting a car, about $20-30/day cheaper too. Got a midsize for Sat-Wed.... $87. ($17.?? / day). On Sat or Sun, the drive will take about an hour through Brea Canyon. Should be pretty.

I'm surprised that SNA (John Wayne Orange County) wasn't an option.

But then... the internet is just slightly stupid about real travel. I'll keep paying my agent his fee... and he'll keep my blood pressure down.

I would go to John Wayne. Nice airport, about 12 miles away.

LAX! All those wannabe LA airports can't hold up a candle to the wide selection and frequency of flights you can get out of LAX. OK John Wayne is closer, but if you miss a flight at LAX there will be another one along right soon. Trust me on this, I go to LA a lot. I want to know that if I see my flight taking off while I'm stuck in traffic, it wasn't the last one out.

Also buses heading from LAX to Anaheim and the Magic Kingdom are nothing but plentiful.

Also the traffic between Ontario and all points west can reach nightmarish proportions, and not just during rush hour which now lasts mostly all day except for Sunday between 01:30 and 01:33 am.

I'll second John Wayne - much easier access (via car) to Anaheim and it is a nice, small(er) airport.

I don't get a choice.....it's LAX for me. I'm a fan of John Wayne 'Duke', but I don't think he'd be at his airport anyway! Bugger!

Susan,
Looking forward to catching up with you this time!

Thanks,

I won't be renting a car, so I'll need convenient ground transportation. Although coming from Philadelphia, I'm stopping in Phoenix first and it seems as if there are flights every hour to LAX and Ontario. I'll check into John Wayne.

Thanks for the info,
Much, much appreciated!

Susan

I'm going in and out of John Wayne (Orange County)

Prices were no more when I checked, and the shuttles were a lot less.
Also, closer.

See you there!

Thanks guys,

I think that I can do John Wayne coming in. Leaving it'll be LAX since I want a non-stop back to Phila. Thanks, you're the best.

Susan

From what I was told by the Hilton, which is right across the street from the convention center, that the closest airport to it is SNA Santa Ana. It is only 10 minutes from there. Lax is 45 minutes to an hour in good traffic and if you are going to rent a car and have never driven in CA LA area, I would think twice about going there. I went for the EZ way, no pun intended. The Hilton is giving $119 a night rates and it shares the same sidewalk with the Con. Cent. Sounds good to me. Another airport that would be closer is ONT Onterio. It's not as close as SNA, but it's way better than LAX for convienience.

Just in case you didn't know, Santa Ana (SNA) is also known as John Wayne.

If it were me, I would go with John Wayne since you miss the bad traffic. However, that tends to be more expensive and there are fewer options (especially for non-stop filghts).

Another alternative is Long Beach. It's a small airport that looks like it's strait out of the 60s and closer than LAX. I think Jet Blue flies out of there.

In your dreams :) - it will take ten minutes to get from the airport to the freeway!

I live in So Cal and drive past the airport on my way to LA all the time.

It is an easy drive and definately closer to Anaheim, but don't count on ten minutes, even with good traffic. It could take you an additional ten minutes to get from the freeway exit to the Hilton :).

However, I do agree that John Wayne (SNA) - is a great choice.

Pat - I'm at the Hilton too.

So Rob.... does it have a spa?

SNA to Convention Center.... Saturday after 10am.... plan on an hour travel.
Sunday at 5am-8am..... about 30 minutes.
Any other day of the week 2-9 hours.
