I have an inkjet HP All-in-one printer. I use it for fax and printing work orders from Lifesaver. The problem I have to change the ink often and they are not cheap.

I am thinking about buying a Laserjet Printer. I assume you get more life out of the toner than the ink cartridges. Anybody have a laserjet that could list pros and cons? Thanks in advance.

I had ink jet for the longest time and when that printer broke down I purchased a Laser - the break down was a God Send. I purchased a $200.00 Brothers Laser Jet that is all-in-one, copy, print, & fax. It isn't color but I don't need color because I don't have visualization with my LifeSavers and if I absolutely have to print color I can do that I my home computer. The laser is a much cleaner print. From one toner cartridge I get about 1700 prints so the cartridge last me about 4 to 6 months. The cartridge cost $49.95 unless they have gone up in the past month. If this printer would break down I would sure purchase another Laser Jet, I may consider the color one if I find a need for it.

All pros, no cons. I have an HP color laser that cost about the same as 2 of its 4 cartridges and have printed thousands upon thousands of pagse and still have half my ink. I've even printed at least a thousand full color brochures with it. The black ink is a double size black. I paid $250. My brother B/W laser used tons of toner compared to the HP. I would have spent over $500 in toner for the Brither for the amount I have printed with this one.

I've found that a cheap inkjet is good for occassional color printing of office documents (throw away when they go bad) and definately a laser jet. I've had good luck with HPs.. my favorite for years has been the Laserjet 1320.. it's a workhorse, but can't be sure if it's even still made.

Jeff, I'm lusting after a color laserjet to print small artwork.. what model is yours?

The cost per page on inkjets is far too high for use with a POS. Get thee a laser :) Even the $49 brother ones like the HL-2040 that are always on sale. You get a printer with toner for the cost of the toner alone :)

Clearer print, its not wet, its quicker.

Our lowend brother keeps on ticking like the Energizer bunny. We set the printer defaults to low resolution & save toner which is good enough for POS purposes and a cartridge lasts longer than the printer (I can't remember the last time that I bought a toner cartridge). Before changing those settings, cartridges were changed much more frequently.

HP 3600. Laser printers can print art but it fades quickly since they were developed for office documents and presentations. I see artists using them all of the time for artwork but I point it out to the buyers. Use an Epson printer for artwork.

I have a cheap monochrome laser printer that came free with a new computer. It's fast and quite effective; and since I don't print often, no worries about ink drying up and clogging jets.

If all you care about is black and white, definitely a laser. If you want decent color, get a color laser. If you want good color, get a black and white laser and an inkjet for color.
