I sure wish I was as stupid as he is and make all that money off licensing

Let's see if any other artists works have ever been made into coasters

I just googled several and so far it's 100%

Should we start a thread that says "Ansel Adams does it again" or Dali or Michealangelo or Jack Vettriano

In fact let's see if we can find a popular artist that does not license

methinks that we a bit jealous of the marketing success of this individual.....wish i was going to the bank as often as he is

Come on now, he is successful because he painted pictures that people liked. So what if "art" galleries or critics think it's (rap. Like the record producer told the bands looking for auditions. "Leave the 'art' at home, we are here to sell records."

People buy pictures they understand or can relate to, things they enjoy. People buy "art" to impress their friends with all their sophistication. Kinkade is also a very shrewd businessman, a quality that seems to elude many "artists".

Myself, I don't like his work one bit, but I wish I was as smart as him.

I was selling Terry Redlin coasters 15 years ago! And I was also selling Terry Redlin trinket boxes, and ceramic Christmas ornaments and lead crystal Christmas ornaments and wall clocks with Redlin images in the bottom of the clock and Christmas cards and note cards and stationery all with Redlin images on them and candles with Redlin scenes on them and reprints of reprints of old Redlin images put out for the third time as Encore editions and Golden Oldie editions (well, that one is a stretch.).

Redlin had that gift area covered back when Ol' Tom was still taking lessons from Bob Ross videos!! But everyone seemed to like Redlin. And everyone seems to dislike Kinkade. So maybe Terry would have been a kajillionaire instead of a bazillionaire by now if he rode on the "hate me" bus more often. You can't convince me that Kinkade doesn't know that he is a total joke to many in this country and all he does is laugh a bit harder on his way to the bank!!!

McDonalds!

I disagree that he's smarter. George Bush is wealthy too for christs sake.
He was in the right place at the right time; Simple as that.

When is the Thomas Kinkaid toilet paper coming out?

This thread should probably be sent over to business issues, because it is worthwhile to look at the marketing skills of TK, Inc. There are two that stand out, and many frameshops/galleries are already doing them, but if not, should consider.

One is that visitors to their "galleries" are treated better than if they walked into big time gallery. Warmly greeted, engaged in conversation about the art on display, etc. No fear of being condescended to here.

Number two is that the ancillary merchandise offers price points that allow casual purchase or gift purchase. If you can't afford the "Chapel of the Eternal Flourescent Hydrangeas" MasterPiece Edition (TM), you can buy the EconoPrintofLight(TM), or the napkin holder - and you don't have to "go home and think about it".

And there are more.. I have been fascinated with TK since first hearing a story about him on NPR years ago.

Guys-Let the hate go

Remember Jay's column on BB's"

About focusing on your own deal rather than complaining about how the other guy is stealing your lunch money

Let the hate go

Doggone it, guys, Bob Carter is right!
We really should stop this cycle of hatred.

I hereby vow that, should Thomas Kinkaid toilet tissue ever actually appear
on the open market, I shall not buy, beg, purchase or steal a roll of it.
Verily, even though the good artist should call me himself, offering a roll
of the coveted "Artist Proof" edition, I shall refrain from taking part.

Neither shall I in any way further seek to josh, tease, mock, joke, quip,
lark, banter, jest or make play about this subject. Call me a pollyanna
if you want to, but Bob has led the way on this noble path and
I am honor-bound to follow his fine example.
This is now, and forever shall be, my last post on this thread.

Touche´!

Hey Pat-I am pretty calm about this, really. I just don't get it

I'll try and use an analogy, though

Remember Charles L? Some grumblers really liked him, were good friends

Supposse someone said that, just because he was getting too much spotlight, he was a lot less than acclaimed. Don't you think you would see some folks come unglued? Folks that maybe had a personal friendship, mybe some that admired him? And, imagine if that was a steady drumbeat of Charles's shortcomings?

Would anybody tell them to calm down?

I guess pointing out Charles's faults really serves no purpose, but we could

Or, not
