This is a picture of our kid room. I remember a few months ago there was a 'what do you do to keep kids busy while mom is spending money' post. I described but couldn't figure out how to post a pic, here it is. we painted the bottom half of the room with chalkboard paint and nailed primary colored frames to the wall. now we have framed childerns art around the top half of the room.

let the ideas fly.

my other store has one of those colorful bead/wire activity centers...works good too.

Put one of those safety covers on the electrical outlet, most kids are not ones that will put their tongue in one of them but there are some stupid ones out there.

Our preferred kids waiting area is in the customer's car, windows rolled all the way up...and the hotter the day the better.

We let them jump on a trampoline which is directly under the carpeted ceiling
Of course they have to wear a helmet with Velcro on it.

I made a little area when I first opened, even included it in my advertising. But I rarelt see any kids come in, so now Max rules that space and the few kids that do come in usually go over to get licked by Max.

You made a cute area though, nice work.

ok Doug and Paul, you're both sick people! I can tell you now for a fact that ice coffee thru the nose burns, thanks for the chuckle!

Dave,

It looks like an attractive, inviting area for the kids. Good job!

We simply have a wicker clothes basket full of toys. I have always been reluctant to put writing implements into the hands of kids since I feel that sheets of paper will not hold their interest for long and that they might seek alternative substrates like the wall or carpets.

When they get bored with the toys, they eye our glass display cases like they are climbing walls. To discourage their adventuresome spirit, we let them sort our box of used knife blades.

I've had a plastic storage crate filled with toys and books for kids up to about school age. I keep it near the front of the store under a sturdy shelf of ready made frames. It isn't very noticeable there, but moms often thank me for pointing it out. That area is in plain view from the design table.

Back in 1988, when I was researching my business plan, I met a framer in Pennsylvania who provided a play area for children. His store was in a strip shopping center.

I asked how well that worked out for him, and his response influenced my decision in that regard. He said he was being used as a babysitter, so he was planning to take it out. Non-customers would send their children into his store to play while they shopped in other stores.

Jim, you can put the kids in the storage crate too...then if they get too whiny, just poke them with a stick.

I have a basket filled with toys also. I wish I had room for a small kids table. I

have found that the toys give the mother about 10-15 mins of quiet time in

which they can make a frame and mat choice. Many mothers have

commented on what a good idea the toys are. That reminds me, I have to

buy some new toys, the old ones are getting ratty looking.

Great looking room, Dave! I wish I had space for something like that. Love the frames on the chalk board.

OK Andrew, have to admit, you made me laugh with yours.
