So a customer wants a Ketubah framed like the one her friend has. From what she described, it's matted with an open "v-groove" (1" wide opening to reveal the inner mat), and shadowbox walls. The ceremonial wedding glass shards are mounted in the v-groove thus encircling the Ketubah in the glass. Sounds cool...but has anyone done this? Her friend had this done 14 years ago, and none of the shards have fallen off. That would be my biggest worry. I'd say bust out the silicone for this one. What say you?

silicone

Alcohol curing silicone (electrical grade) has a very short shelf life, which makes it hard to find (in a fresh form) and which means that often it will only be useful for one job. When acetic acid curing silicone is used, it should be aired out thoroughly to allow the acid to evaporate. There are clear epoxies that can also be used.

Kirstie- I get choked up every time I see that photo - what a remarkable job.

Thanks, Rick for posting that link.

If you are gluing glass, the water clear silicone is optically clear (not milky) when dry and is the perfect adhesive to use for decorative purposes with glass. "Regular" silicone cures to a milky, translucent finish and does not look nearly as good.

As with any RTV (room temperature vulcanization) silicone product, one must allow ample time for curing and evaporation of the outgassing (and then some) prior to fitting. This is not something that can be rushed and is also dependent on the RH of the air at the time of application/curing.

FYI - a tube of the water clear silicone can be as much as $25 per tube........
