In another thread this word came up.

"JUST", should be a swear word to framers and at very least a red flag when a customer uses it.

I just need a mat...

I just need a piece of glass...

I just need this put in the frame...

What are your "JUST" stories?

Should I put "JUST" in the censored word file?

framer

Can't you just put some color on it? (to cover up the gouges and craters left by missing compo ornamants)

$XX.XX for just one mat/frame/piece of glass???

"It's just a poster!"

cringe . That one always makes my teeth hurt. I know what's coming.....

"Can't I just wait for you to do it?"

OK on a simple mat cut, not so much on a full job!

Perhaps you should add the word ONLY as well.

"It's JUST a poster and I ONLY want to frame it for $25"

JUST a 16x20 white mat

BUT it has to exactly match the white border

DID I MENTION there will be 11 openings

DOES that matter?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

That word makes a framer's teeth hurt. Customers who use that word seem to place very little value on our products and services. That word seems to be code for "Make this cheap, since I think it's worth nothing and so are you."

However, I wouldn't want to ban that word or diminish its use, because it serves a valuable purpose for me. It tells me when a customer needs an adjustment of perception. That word signals me when it's time to fire off a few rounds in the War on Consumer Framing Ignorance.

Without that word, I might misjudge her expectations and send her screaming out the door. Again.

Was it not a Wise Person right here on The Grumble that stated:

If I could JUST
I would JUST
But I can't JUST
So I JUST won't!

I 'hear' that every time someone says "Could you JUST...?"

"It's JUST 2 pieces of cardboard slapped into a frame with some glass!!! How long can it possibly take to put that together?" from an angry customer because she was told it would take approximately 10-14 days, possible sooner depending on the work load. She shows up early and can't understand.

Her order consists of two fabric mats, fillet, preservation mounting, museum glass, and frame. Now, we are supposed to JUST slap it together.

adJUST price accordingly and start slappin' girl. :D

If the customers face JUST happens to be close and in the way of the slappin', just blame it on me. :D

"I'm JUST going to hang it in the basement, so I ONLY want to put a cheap poster frame on it. No, that's too much money, I JUST want the regular glass."

***That was for his grandfather's certificate awarded as a master mason; obviously, he did not have much family pride. I almost cried. His grandfather probably turned over in his grave.

I'm surprised.. we have thankfully, never had any customers like that. Most of ours come in and say..."Do it nicely, and let me know. Thanks!" Its kind of nice. Oh well, I am sure we will have a few "Just" Customers today now that I posted this!....

What can ya do!

Justin

the following happened this week...

"Can you just put this in a frame? My daughter is going to be a famous designer!"

"Acid? Im not going to worry about just a little acid"

"The mat is fine, its just a little wierd in the corners"

I tried, when i told her about acid in the crapmat and the cardboard she said she didnt think she needed to worry about "just a little acid". She did end up going with the more expensie LeCirque blue frame over the skiinny blue metal... and i didnt give her a choice and priced it out with cons glass. :)

A guy comes in about 2 p.m. on a Saturday with 9 different sized snapshots. He wants them mounted in a collage type, double mat and shrink wrapped.

As he leaves he says, “I just have a few errands to run. I’ll be back to pick it up in about an hour.”

Yeah, just about, pal!

Yeah... i was glad she didn't ask me transfer it to the back of the frame. :)

She just picked up... loved it and said there are many more to go.... I cant wait to see how the others are rigged up.
