Just a quick Hello to introduce myself.

I thought I would join some of my fellow UK framers on this side of the pond. FF has become a bit stale since Robo left and I did promise him that I would come and find him over here.

I am a commercial framer from Manchester who hates MDF and masking tape. My work varies from hundreds of frames for hotels and bars to conservation jobs for artists and galleries.

I look forward to engaging with you all on here. :D:D

Howdie - welcome to the Grumble. Lots of us are in Las Vegas for our convention so you may not hear from many until Wednesday or Thursday. Glad to have you here and I'm sure more of us will be wishing you the same soon.

Forgot to mention that. I am an avid home brewer as well, but unfortunately I haven't had much time at the moment to brew. To busy making 700 hinged poster cases for a brewery :D:D.

I hope to get a brew in on my birthday next month.

Robo when we eventually meet up I will bring you a bottle.

Welcome Alistair!

Always good to see another Brit around.

Hold on: Wait Just A Minute Here...

United or City?

Your future depends on it. Be careful now!

Just Kidding!

But does it count to one of my five a day? :D:D

The Grumble pulls for Fulham. But having a Mancunian on board is great.

To American sports fans: Manchester United is in debt $700 million according to Wikipedia. That even beats the Yankees for gall.

Moderators: Is there a daily limit?

And guess who dumped his debt on us?

Yes Malcolm Glazier owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and also from that side of the pond. He is not popular in our fair city, in actual fact the correct answer to the question of what team doi you support I should have said FC United, set up in the wake of the Glaziers taking over.

Football rant over :D :D

Good question. There is a limit to the number of Personal messages you can store, and the amount of time you have to edit your post. There have been instances of people posting single words in order to drive up their post count (discouraged, but not limited).
Some have reached their personal limit with a single word, while others yammer on and on never getting close. That said, just what are you talking about?

Welcome to the Grumble Alistair.

I'll add my big WELCOME to the Grumble. I'm sure you'll love it.

Welcome from this side of the pond.
Gawd, a brewery in the shop, what a great combo!

Smooze and beer leads me to snooze and pee a lot!

Welcome to the Grumble Alistair.

I think Alistair was yanking my chain when he mentioned a 5-post-a-day limit. Clever people, those Brits.

Oh, that? It only applies to Canadians.

Hi Ormond

I didn't want to attract attention from the ministry of conservation so I haven't added anything provocative ............. Yet.

I think you know one of my ex employees in Aus Jonathan Dennis. I think he has got rid of all the commercial bad habits I taught him.

Hi Pictured Framer, I have plenty of space in my workshop nearly 4000 sq ft of industrial unit so a little space to brewing doesn't go a miss. I have a bitter 5.5% pride of Manchester (another united reference) and a 9.5% barley wine. When I have got time I need to brew a stout, a brown ale and a pale ale for summer, but at the moment I am far to busy to brew.

Thanks once again everyone, and to those who know me I will try to behave. :D :D

Hey, look what I did Alistair, quoted your complete post straight after it - and no-one's gonna bollock me :D

I bet not many people here know what sort of beers you're on about - especially barley wine - (yes, it's a beer and it's hooligan soup .... if you're daft enough to drink it like beer)

You may find this forum a little different and I'm sure you'll have a great time here!

I do know Jonathan quite well. I don't think he is involved in commercial framing at all now. His employer is involved in a totally different type of framing.

Welcome to the Grumble, Alistair.
One of my moulding supplier/friends is a home brewer as well.

I have no problem with MDf. I have just used 3 palettes of 9mm mdf for a job. I just don't use it on the back of pictures as it never cuts well and Craft Board looks the same cuts easier and when you buy it buy the palette not much dearer.

Ormond I spoke with Jonathan the other week, I agree i don't think he misses commercial work.

STC, drinking a good beer especially a barley wine is like drinking a malt whiskey anyway it won't be ready until next christmas at the earliest. However in the USA their is a much stronger craft brewing culture than the UK they are quite well educated in it.

Oh and you bother using a plastic film :icon21:

Framer Dave it has been my new years resolution not to use the term conservation police, I now use Ministry of Conservation :icon21:

I must say I have had a much better reception on here than I did 12 months ago on the FF, even by those of you I got into spats.

Well frames wait for no man

catch you all latter

whats wrong with MDF :-)

I make a small fortune with it doing block mounts

MDF, stick back plastic and picture = $$$$$$

Me too, with cheap posters laminated and framed with cheap plastic. Plus, and this is big: NOT made in China!

Remember the race to the bottom: there's no limit to how cheap consumers want their products!
