Well I just ordered a VN-42 from United for $1992.75 from this special http://www.unitedmfrs.com/news_specials/news_specials.htm

I also see that ITW/AMP also has an offer in the November Decor Magazine. It states that if you order a new underpinner and trade in your old underpinner they will send you $500 cash direct.

Here's the rub. This offer is not available along with the sale from United. It seems that ITW/AMP has multiple promotions going on. How the consumer is supposed to know that United's sale price is utilizing another offer is beyond me. The ITW/AMP ad does not say that it is not valid with other offers whether known or not.

I am not upset at all with United, but I am bit miffed with ITW/AMP  and their misleading promotion. This promotion is stupid in another way IMHO, they require you to send in your old underpinner at your expense. These things are not light weight. I would guess that shipping one would be close to $100. It seems that the freight companies are the real benefactor of this offer. They get the shipping of the new unit as well as the old one.

I just got off the phone with them and they said that they would see if they could get me $250 because their ad doesn't state that it is not available with other offers. Of course, that is before the shipping expense.

This leaves me with real mixed feelings. The price from United is excellent but I still feel a bit screwed.

Rant over:soapbox:

I feel you Dave. The ad should clearly state that it is only under certain conditions and from a truly legal standpoint it must in order to exclude you from the offer.

Now the question remains, will ITW/AMP do the right thing and honor the nationally advertised program. Keep us posted.

Local supplier

Don't you have a local supplier that carries the joiner?
After all the hassle + shipping charges, you've wasted more money and time.

You missed the part where he bought it on sale at 50% of list. The vendor he bought it from had a mistake in a published add and honored the price any way (Peter always does the right thing).

The issue is that the price he paid from the vendor has nothing to do with the manufacturers offer.

Scott, As Jeff pointed out this offer was by far better then what my local suppliers would do. Plus they are all drop shipped direct from ITW/AMP. At least that is the way it is with my local distributors.

Dave, whichever way this turns out, it looks like you got a great deal on a popular underpinner. Kudos to United Mfrs Suppliers for making it available.
