She came in to have me repair a damaged-in-shipment frame. One of those tupperware-type art party hostesses. Mentioned a new, local young artist whose art they had just picked up, with a western style and a name I knew from before, not a common name.

Turns out, he's the grandson of a good-ol'-boy cowboy artist I framed for, back in the early 80's, in another state and another time. Grandson has recently moved to the area for the love of a woman and her family who support his gift of artistry.

His Grampa was loved by the small town for his committment to the community and his honesty and kindness. When he passed away, his family turned his very last painting, buffalo-into-the-sunset, into limited edition prints to sell, to fund a memorial at the public park, in his name. I was honored to contribute to that process.

His grandson, then a toddler, has inherited his Grampa's gift of art. Last I saw his Grampa alive was 19 years ago. Grampa often told me he could take no credit for his art, that God gave it to him, he was just the paintbrush.

Grandson walked through the door of my shop, a tall, shy young man, all dressed up in his best cowboy hat and dress shirt and kerchief, a younger face of the man I once knew and loved and respected....we broke out in tears and hugged as if long-lost family....a spittin' image, and his art is his Grampa's, reincarnated, but with a flair of his own.

This weekend, I found 2 prints of Frank's last painting. I will keep one, as a reminder of the values that he set, and one to give to his grandson, Jeff, who carries on his gift. I am still honored to be part of the process and delighted to have found my good-ol' friend again, in his descendant.

Wow!

Wow, what a wonderful story! How proud you must feel to be a part of it!

Not proud, Dani...just honored.

His Aunt Willadean worked in my in-laws' furniture store where I had my first frame shop. She used to come in and boss me around (help me frame - Ha!) In my scrapbook, I showed him a photo of Willie and me, peaking though an oversize frame in my little shop, grins as big as life, having fun FRAMING!. She was also a talented artist, but died troubled, as artists often do. I loved Frank and I loved Willie.

sigh....
