"It takes away from the print" type customers...

Yeah, some of youse missed the point entirely. Nobody was asking this thread to be moved or deleted. Just a request to consider your audience. Most who got defensive haven't been on the G very long. Those of us who expressed concern have. I guess that is the difference. Ya gotta know where we came from to see where we are now.

The Grumble has become a real force within the industry. We now have a voice. A lot of people out there think the Grumble is a complete waste of time. Some people think the Grumble takes it's name too seriously. (Vivian Kistler actually said that at a meeting I attended.)Why not choose more carefully where to post the non-productive meanderings we all have a tendency to do. Part of what makes the Grumble so unique is the dialogue and comraderie so it is a fine line.

I've certainly meandered enough myself but it just feels like some of this stuff is just mean spirited and non productive and seems to be happening with more frequency.

Once in awhile, when they balk at the price I go into this mode:
Them: "Good grief, it's only a poster, but I really love this poster!"
Me:"How much would you spend on 2 or 3 dinners and theater out?"
Them: "Oh....I never thought of it that way"
Me: "And how long would that dinner last? A day or so?" (I know, sorry for the visual)
Them: 'Oh...I never thought of that either"
Me: " How long do you think this poster will last, properly framed and preserved, for the same amount of money you would pay for those dinners"
Them: "Oh!...longer than those dinners."
Me: "Shall I order the materials?"
Them: "Oh...yeah! When will it be ready?"

My main gripe isn't necessarily what customers say, but what some customers say to each other. We have several customers that are professional artists or designers with (in my opinion and the opinion of other framers in the shop) questionable taste. Many times these people will 'take over' another employees customer while they are being helped... etc....

Well Belinda, my customers with the worse taste in proper matting, framing, etc are among interior decorators, artists, and photographers! Out of 10 interior decorators, only 3 are absolutely the best (the remaining are "oKay" or are in the wrong business..). In the "artists" catagory, their artwork is excellent, they sell a lot of prints, posters, et., BUT, their choice of mats and frames is absolutely stupid! (Example: absolutely beautiful, colorful "duck" print... they chose a 4" gold ornate frame with a black mat!!) Photographers: The smart ones DO NOT accompany their customers to assist them in choosing a frame and mat(s)! They might take excellent photos, but in my opinion are color-blind when it comes to choosing frames and mats....
