Opinions Wanted Is the "Quiet Zone" compressor a good deal?

You won't go wrong for the price. It is Not Silent but it is very Quiet compared to any other small compressor that you might find at a home center type place. You are able to carry on a normal conversation over this compressor.

My old one in the back use to scare customers when it came on, they don't even mention this one.

The silver one is $289 and the red one $249 from www.generatordepot.com. I need 60# of pressure on one machine and 100# on the other. It's rated at 115#, so should be OK. Has anyone had issues with pressure on this model? Has anyone determined the difference between the two models (silver is APC4406 and red is GC4406); the links to the owner manual are both for the APC4406.

It has one regulated chuck and one non-regulated. Very quiet and Sams Club has it including shipping for just over $240. I run the Wizard and a stapler with it. Only issue anybody has had is minor air leak in a fitting which mine has now but it will only take a minute to tighten it when I remember while there is no pressure in it. Very good capacity in the tanks.

My red one had a minor air leak. It would cycle on once every other hour. Took the longest time to notice ;) Not silent but definitely quiet. Put it on an anti fatigue mat I had lying around and it is even a little quieter (and looks a little better rested... :) ) it cut down on the vibration on the old wooden floor.

you'll like the machine, great price. Got mine on a timer so it doesn't kick in at night, but if it did I don't think the neghbors would hear it.

We have 3

Our DIY frame side has three of these compressors. They are located at each of the fitting table that customers use and as of today we have not had a single customer complain or even jump when it comes on or shuts off. We can keep fitting while it is on no problems. The only knock I have on these compressors is out of the 3 we purchased 2 had air leaks and I had to trace them down and tighten fittings. We have had them about a year. Our color is silver. :kaffeetrinker_2:

I've had mine for a few months now, no problems. I run my CMC and my Cassese on it. I keep it in my back room so I cant even hear it when it comes on when I'm out front with customers.

And its pretty light weight so it makes it easy to move around

I ordered two red compressors ($249 each, shipping included) and got a quick reply that they were out of stock, but I could have the aluminum finish for the same price. They arrived Thursday morning and we are really glad we made the purchase! We showed them to a local artist friend - and he's ordering one for his studio. Thanks for the info on this great little compressor!

The next question....

OK...so it's value for the money - And I paid at least twice that for my SilentAire compressor.

But, we've now owned this SilentAire since 1999 - that's 12 years and I'm expecting a few more years out of this wonderful piece of equipment. So if I paid $700-850 for this and it is totally quiet...what's that worth?

I mean, you only invest in equipment to make your life easier, more comfortable, more efficient...why not buy something better? Just food for thought.

When I moved into my new store we ordered 3 of them since my equipment is spread out and I didn't want to run pvc pipe this time. We love them. Each piece of equipment has it's own compressor and while they aren't silent they are so much quieter than my old one. We can easily carry on a conversation without raising our voices. When I ordered them through Sam's Club I ended up getting 2 reds and a silver. Different name but same compressor.

I own 4 different compressors and each was purchased for a different reason. My Silentaire is used with the V-nailer in the back room so I can hear customers come in while I'm working. The Quiet Zone is used with the Wizard in the work area which is open to the sales floor and has 2 outlets, one is regulated for the stapler. It makes less noise than the Wizard. A Husky which has a huge tank and on wheels which came with a ton of tools and accerories equal to the price paid for the compressor. The Porter Cable came with 2 nail guns and a narrow crown stapler and is very small and portable and once again the tools were equal to the entire cost.

There are a ton of reasons for not spending top dollar for every tool we buy. I would rather have 4 compressors than run a mile of piping with outlets. I can take a compressor home, large or small and not have to worry about getting it back to the shop without disrupting workflow. My total investment was $1,400 for 4 compressors, 18 air tools and 2 hoses.

Different Strokes....for different folks...

Totally understand where you're coming from Jeff. My point is that for most framers, at the end of the day (or 20 years later) when you amoritize this expense over all those years, it probably pays dividends to buy up.

John for me it was a matter of buying up, in increments as was affordable ;)

Started with the husky, loved it but it was loud and I burned it out. Got the big bad boy, because it came with tools and accessories and mainly because it was XMas and the little husky died mid rush and the big one was all that was at HD.

Swapped the big one for a near silent antique one that is still running strong. Has to be a pre 1950 dentist compressor, quiet as can be. Got the "red one" so that I could keep the antique as a back up.

The compressor that 'died' on us was a nearly 30-year-old Bambi and it died at a time that we really couldn't afford to invest in a more expensive unit, however quiet it may be. The Quiet Zone is affordable for us right now and we have no regrets at all for having bought two of them. At whatever point we need to replace one, we might consider a 'buy up' - but hopefully that will be a few years down the road.
