iPhone 5 - anyone else waiting?

My husband is now destined for an iPhone--my 4S. When the hoopla dies down I plan to drop by an AT& T store to pick one up. This way I can discuss plans, switch numbers on the phones, and so on.

I wanted a 5 when my cersion 3 broke (in water--ahem...) but it was not out yet. So now Jeff gets a less than year old 4S which is a huge improvement over his current flip phone.

I have already ordered 3 extra connectors. Work, Home, Auto, Bedside. I need them everywhere. I figure these could sell out so I ordered them before the phone.

Yup. Although many are complaining about the new connector, it is a big improvement on its predecessor. They will sell quickly as everyone wants to keep their old accessories. Most but not all will work using the new connector adapter.
 
Anyone know how the protection plan works. There was a $9.99 per month option, and the Verizon rep I had on the phone at the same time I was making the order said that is the best plan, and pretty much covers everything (which for a phone with an $899 retail, is a good insurance plan, at least for a year). Anyone ever have to use their protection plan?
 
I was paying $ 5.99 a month for the insurance on my old Motorola DROID and did use it once. Verizon replaced the phone for $ 35.00. I had left it outside in the rain.

I do have insurance on my Samsung Galaxy s3's with Verizon. $ 7.50 a month for each phone. It protects against everything but loss or theft. $ 50.00 deductible.
 
Hmmm be aware for overkill protecting by assurances..... No idea how the situation in the USA is, but I have a current travel assurance and that covers my Macbook, phone and other stuff as I carry with me. So I don't need a separate assurance for a phone I know about my son that he arranged a special assurance like you noted and had a lot of luck with it. His phone died with skiing and he became a new phone. Strangely that direct was the end of that assurance agreement.
 
Looks like Apple's forcing people to use Apple-Maps, and while I like the idea that Vector based graphics are possibly quicker, the data simply isn't streamlined. I'm not looking forward to dealing with Apple-Maps. If you have an iPhone 4s or earlier, I would recommend considering not downloading the update to ios6.

I'm sure the fudge will hit the fan pretty quickly soon anyway with millions of people about to get the new phone/new ios. If Apple decides not to allow Google their own navigation app, then I will simply sell the device.
 
I advice every user to update your iPhone to IOS 6 WITH CABLE CONNECTED AND ITUNES OPENED!!!.

Saw some newspaper-notes that a connection was not required and I have no idea where that idea came from but I have some thoughts about it.......

My update ran fine and after starting IOS 6 you have to agree or disagree again about the location-services. When you agree it you can always find your iPhone/iPad back through iTunes when you installed the free app "FindMyiPhone".

Maps from Apple is OK for me. I just use roads and will search for companies/names later. All other apps work fine as well. My current location also helped me once in driving to a location in the country. You can see yourself moving and remark if you go into the right direction.
 
I'm waiting til my contract is up, because my children have the annoying habit of losing or breaking their phones, so I keep getting bumped to the back of the line for an upgrade.

Initially, cool to the iPhone5, but the more I read, the warmer I get. The larger screen, ehh, but not terrible either. I like being able to use the phone one-handed. Maps, again, ehh, but there are other options, and until I try maps with my own needs, I won't know. Improved camera, good, but it is the person behind the camera that is important. Improved speed and durability, good.

As to why some of us aren't interested in Droids, I'm not interested in doing the work to figure the system out, or doing the research to see which is "best", by some moveable standard. Apple products sync all of my stuff; I've had very good customer service, and I do believe they are built well. (Junior kid has an iPod touch that was severely damaged, with stuff oozing out of it, but it still works, and when you turn it on, you don't notice the cracked glass. And, replacement parts are readily available, along with how to's)

Larry, you have been showing restraint, good on you, but if you don't like apple, fine, but don't pull a Mitt on us apple users, and imply that we're deficient because there are better Droids out there, we would like if we weren't so blinded by apple's propaganda. I'm blinded by the simplest of reasons, plain old usability, and apple has always been, for me, easily usable.

i am with you there Bron. before i started buying apple products, it was installing software to use this and that. virus protection, speed loss after a year, instability, because it is full of all the carp available for pc that you don't need or use. Half it you don't know where it even came from.
Now everything is sync, speed never an issue, no junk, reliable, built well, worth every extra cent i reckon.
It would take a lot of convincing me to go to something else now.
 
Apple made a nice commercial. And this is the first commercial (as far as I know) that also points to picture frame.

That is so cute. We went into an Apple store today and were told that they only get a few iPhone5s every day and to come back early in the morning.
I am waiting until the rush is over.

I had to use one with Bell Canada. They simply replaced the phone with a new one, with no arguements.
 
All those Chinese working in a factory is the same as what happens in a Chinese town. The Chinese form gangs with their own rules..... I also saw a note from a stolen truck in Hong Kong with a few thousand iPhones 5 loaded. The phones appeared in Chinese mainland within 24 hours again. They have no idea that every iPhone has it's own unique serial-number.

The worldwide demand for this iPhone is much higher as for the previous "4S". I'm glad people can't be stopped now by false messages in newspapers like about running the update without a cable-connection. It's also very interesting what happens in the USA now whit the withdraw of many Samsung products. Apple now withdrew buying LCD-screens from Samsung and let those build by LG and Sony now. The next step will be the withdraw of Apples own A6 CPU from Samsung's production.
 
They are the primary supplier of iPhone components as well as the majority of the mobile handset manufacturers. They also make handsets of their own as well as tablets so a $43 billion dollar investment sounds reasonable since they have the money lying around after selling merchandise to their competitors and consumers.
 
I know Jeff. I hope they will develop very good to help making more helpful devices for us to make our "world" more simple. It would be very boring without competition.

Can anyone imagine the uproar we could generate if we told our framing customers to come early every day until their frame might be ready?

Can anyone imagine having such a product/service that even when relying on the great (in size) nation of China you can't keep up with demand?

No one is making anyone come back every day, it's just that there is so much demand right now that they can't keep up. Admittedly not a great situation, but as a business owner I prefer that to the alternative.
 
A friend of mine just bought a brand new iPhone 3G - it is not his first Apple product, but his first smart phone and he figured he could save a bundle and get a tremendous upgrade from his current dumb phone. He showed me how it arrived - and I must say, not knowing anything about the Apple Corp's products, they sure have the packaging down pat.

It came in the most beautiful little black box, and they even include decals (for your car so someone can break in and try to steal it?) (so you have to keep buying new ones?). I am very impressed with the box.

I saw a guy with one of those decals on his car run off the road and nearly hit a telephone pole while he was playing with his phone. :nuts:
 
Apple-packages are mostly genius. In Holland people store the package for use with selling a Mac after 2 or 3 years. It's common that a seller delivers the original software and package with selling. I see prices of second-hand Mac's going up now. You can buy a new Mac for €1200 and sell it after 2 years for €850

I kindly ask people who only like to bash Apple products to keep their comments in their own favor topics. (As we promised before)

Didn't you just write this? "I think you have to remove all dangerous stuff from Redmond first. Than you get free breath to have a fine computer to work safe and fast."
