Are there any framers in Iowa that we know that have been affected by the floods?

Tim checked in earlier on the other thread in Warped about the flooding and he is ok.

In addition to Iowa, the whole southern half of Wisconsin and parts of Illinois,Indiana and Missouri have also been flooded bad. As of today, 19 counties in Wisconsin were eligible for Federal disaster aid.

Of the Wisconsin grumblers, the only one I can think of who may be having problems is Jill in Omro. Her shop is right on the Fox River south of us and that river is expected to crest over the weekend at record levels. I'm not sure if anyone has contacted her to see how she is fairing.

I do not know if any are Grumblers or Lurkers but from talking to my sales reps, and nothing official since they have not talked to them yet, probably 3-4 frame shops in Cedar Rapids and maybe one in Cedar Falls. Not sure about Iowa City/Coralville area.

BUt even if you were not flooded out it has affected you. Teh communities came together to help each other out anbd spent time sandbagging and helping people move and clean up after the floods and tornados. We had an entire town in Iowa destroyed by a tornado and people from all over the state have helped out there as well as were the tornado hit the boy scout camp. When this is done people are not out shopping, this past 2 weeks have seen a halt to sales.

I can deal with that knowing that somehow I did help someone save their home or business.

If anyone is a fan of the artwork by Brian Andreas, who does the Story People Art, he has rereleased the poster that he did for a fundraiser for New Orleans flood relief. This time the money goes to the Iowa flood relief fund. $19 of the $20 charged goes to the fund.

Southern and South Western Wisconsin...

One framer in Fort Atkinson, WI reported on the PPFA Oline Exchange about her issues with backed up sewage in her downtown location. Sounds like her framing workshop was all on the lower level of this historic building.

She apparently took precautions and moved everything to higher ground. She posted on OLEX conserned about absorbtion damage to her inventory of conservation quality boards.

We are heading for our golf outing this weekend to Baraboo which lies in the heart of the affected area. It will be interested to see this area first hand.

I thought I saw that Jill posted on one thread during the past few days without any mention of flooding.

Sarah watched a family of 5 baby ducklings and their mother negotiate the Fox River yesterday from a restaurant in Appleton.....Mama Duck kept swimming dangerously close to the current which would have pulled any and all of them over!

This whole scenerio in different parts of the country has made me more sensitive to flood potential in MANY places. I discovered this website which you all might find interesting...

Floodsmart - National Flood Insurance Program. Here you can type in your address and determine the potential risk/rating for where you live.

Tim - Do you know the folks from Corner House Gallery in Cedar Rapids? George & Janelle McClain - Do you know how they have fared?

John

John,
The Corner House Gallery is fine. The flood waters would not have gotten anywhere near them. I do not know the McClain's personally,
but I am sure that like us, their business has screeched to a halt.
Hopefully, things will pick up soon.

Iowa City/Coralville

Chris,

I do not know the locations of 2 framers except one Corallville and one in IA City, were TGFU or Ron Mason at Gallery One in the flooded areas?

Where do you work there?

Tim,
I actually work at TGFU, we are fine, hard to get to and very slow, but fine. The water was at least 10 blocks away at it's worst.
Ron is a very good friend of mine. He and his shop are fine. The water got a little closer to him, but still not in any danger.
Chris

Thanks for the update John. Let us know what you hear at the outing today.

I drove through some of the affected area yesterday. In both Berlin and Princeton, just to the south of us, the main highways are detoured due to flooding on the road. The detour in Princeton went through their downtown, which was bustling with activity even though the river was right up to and surrounding the back, exposed basements of the buildings on the south side of the street. Most looked like they were open anyway. There used to be a little frame shop there (the Cracker Box) but I'm not sure if she is still around. Traffic was too heavy for me to get a glimpse .

Just wanted to see if there was an update on how everyone affected by the flooding is doing. I saw that Iowa and Illinois had more heavy rains yesterday and the water is continueing to work it's way south down the Mississippi. Hope everyone is ok and starting to dry out.
