Hello, All. I just joined tonight. I am not a framer by trade but my father was and I inherited his equipment after he passed on a couple of years ago. I did learn a few tricks from him but a friend of mind has me stumped.
My friend gave me a bunch of high school memorabilia to frame. A sports letter and a lot of what I call trinkets; a senior key, a '57 gold pendant, several other pendants for choir, cheerleading and some other related items. How do I go about mounting these items to the mat board? Some of them are pins and I would like to preserve them without removing or cutting off the pin. Will silicone work? Like I said I am stumped. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Judy,
Welcome to the Grumble! :)
You'll probably get answers to your question tomorrow
when everyone is awake again. Of course, our friends in
England, Australia, Ireland and Malaysian are all up right now,
so maybe you'll hear from them first. Have a good night!

Judy, I going to bed right now.. but first.....

You can sew things down to mats, or you can take tulle and wrap over certain things and draw that back through a hole and hot glue, or make little bands of Mylar and pass through slits in the mat to be glued down on the back.
I might suggest you go to the PPFA website, and in their e-bookstore there is a new book out by Jim Miller that is exactly what you need right now.

Try to stay away from the silicone or any types of adhesive on the items (or even nearby - as in anywhere in the frame. Baer had some good suggestions and if that seems too fifficult, why don't you leave that to a nearby experienced professional framer & when they are done you can use your equipment to finish the job!
