Initiating the new metal saw

Good luck with your saw.

Thank you.

Thanks! We are doing ok with it, only had one minor disagreement about where to line up the moulding on the cutting scale...have already begun framing our results. YAY:thumbsup:

We have a Makita 10" (with the Clearmount scales)! We only have the blade for metal at this point. We have a Morso chopper for the wood.

Am using industrial strength safety glasses. I have earplugs...now that you mention it, I should be using them. Thanks for your concern.

Blade lubricant?

Here's a couple of things to beware of that may help you.

Definately good to lube the blade, but that lube will get on the measuring fence and reduce the gripping ability of the clamps.

Also, be meticulous about not allowing metal particles to accumulate one the fence, and also behind the saw where the 45-degree stops are. Both could cause small changes in your cut angles resulting in a bad day.

Finally, all single miter saws can send uncontained metal scraps flying. Be careful.

there are several vegetable/water based lubricants available. Check with any local machine shop supplier. It comes in 1 gal and 5 gal concentrates. The working strength varies by brand, but is probably in the 1:32 range. A one gallon jug will last years if not mixed down to working strength. Locally its about $10-$15/ gal.
