How do people write in a word that is blue and works as link, but is not an address?

I'd like to know generally, but also want to add my LinkedIn page to my signature without having it be the long sloppy address that it really is.

Kirstie does it so nicely!

Thanks,

Rebecca

Do you mean like this?

If so, type whatever you want. Highlight the word(s) you want linked. Click on the "insert link" (blue globe looking icon thingy) above. Type or paste in the link.

If you paste in make sure you do not have a double "http://" at the front.

Clive.

Thank you! But I can't find the glue globe thingy... When you say "above", do you mean my browser tab bar or the top bar of the Grumble or....?

Rebecca:

If you cannot see the globe, it is possible you're using the "basic" version of the Grumble software. Switch to the "advanced" as follows:

  • Click on User CP (upper left)
  • On the left side, under Your Control Panel, scroll down till you see Edit Options, click on it
  • Scroll down till you see: Miscellaneous Options
  • Where it says Message Editor Interface, change that to: Enhanced Interface.
Next time you post something, you will see new options, one of them is the link option.

This only works on the Grumble or other similar sites.

The Blue Globe/link thingy is right above the box where you are typing in the text.

If you want to create a hyperlink where there is no "shortcut" you need to enter the following (assuming an html environment):

<a href="http://www.thegrumble.com">Link</a>

Where Link is the text you want to appear.

(sorry - I don't know how to turn off auto hyperlinking on valid links on TG. Just ignore the fact the the Grumble address shows up as a hyperlink above...)

Aha, I see said the blind man! Thank you all so much for the time you took to walk me through this; I will practice tomorrow.
