This is my first time posting but I have learned a lot by reading the posts here.
I had a 3 part paint-by-number acrylic painting brought in that the customer wants to frame in one unit. I need ideas on how to do this. The information from the kit showed it framed in 3 frames. I thought about connecting the 3 frames together but I am not sure what kind of hardware to get? Or is there a way to frame them in one frame and cover the raw edges of the paper board on the inside edges?
Thank you for any advice you can give me.

The more info you can give the better, size, material and such...

As they are paint by number paintings, I will assume we don't need to use serious archival methods for mounting.

As she wants them in one frame, you glue each of them onto their own floater board which you then glue to a nice color of mat board so they are floating in the frame. Spacers keep the glass away and there you go.

3 simple frames screwed together from inside.

Or, you could get way more complicated, though it is 3 frames screwed together:

What Framah and Bron said.

Did something similar a few weeks ago (non archival as well):

Glued the 3 pieces to one black foam core with about 1/2" of space between them, then one frame around all 3. The black space separating each looked like a thin black frame between them. Customer loved it.

If a true 3 frame look is called for, you can frame each in a single frame then stack one large frame around the 3.

The project would be about an 16x24 or so with two smaller sides with a wide section in the middle. It is painted on what appears to be heavy cardboard. The edges are slightly warped and are unfinished. Would you suggest using acrylic paint to finish the edges or leave them as is.

I like the idea of a floater board. Acrylic paintings are not usually put under glass but this may be one of those times to do it.

If I fasten the frames from the inside, it sounds like I need to screw them through the sides that touch. I had not thought about doing that.

The customer is ok with putting it into one frame. Thanks for the ideas on how to handle it. You are wonderful!

What a great idea Paul!!! I will have to steal that!

I framed 3 stretched canvases together in one frame. I used a float frame with a mat and foamboard glued into the bottom. Then screwed the canvases in place from behind. Finished it off with a frame and fillet over the float.

Shallower paintings, not on strtcher frames, could be top mounted onto a sqaure profile frame that either comes just to the edge or is recessed in behind each art piece.

No, I would not finish with acrylic paint; but the customer can do it if it's bothersome.
You mention it is acrylic paint on some type of cardboard; yes for glass. I always glaze acrylic on paper.

Thanks for the advice. I won't touch it with paint ("Do no harm" and the paint would not be reversable). And I will cover it with glass. I had not thought about the paper backing which would require it to be covered.
Wow, I love the great ideas that all of you have come up with. I had never seen a frame with three sections and had not thought about doing frames within frames. Thanks.
