Hope y'all had a great Labor Day Weekend!

Customer stopped by today to inquire (probably price shopping) about framing (well, not really framing, but read on) an old 6 x 10 ft American flag.

She doesn't want it framed, just attached to a backing like a stretched canvas. No frame, no glazing, just the flag attached to the canvas (and stretcher bars, obviously), D rings on each end to hang it.

She said the flag does have an area around it where it could be attached to the canvas.....

Not sure she would come back (I threw an ungodly amount of $$ at her, because we always end up spending more time and materials than first planned) .

But just in case: Is it really a good idea to attach / mount such an old object as she described?? Other alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

Is your alias Betsy Ross?

Sure this can be done...just like you would do it if planning on framing. Lots of sewing involved...around the perimeter...in the field. Really depends on how efficient a seamstress you are Paul. Stretch a layer of nylon window screening under the cloth background for support...lots of cross bracing on the stretcher frame.

Etiquette, schmetiquette!! I see nothing wrong with sewing it into place to display proudly. No way do I consider that desecrating the flag.

What would you have her do with it?? Fold it up and put it into a drawer? or into one of those triangular frames?:confused:

stretch a linen or cotton over bars that are just the size of the flag... then stitch the flag to the linen.....

Kind of Gallery Wrap with a Flag face.
