been looking thru the posts on the subject of saw blades--ie, where/from whom we buy them---many many opinions, but few real answers....

so, moderator.....

how about a survey, fueled/populated by the membership as to how many buy their blades from which supplier(possible further seperated by metal/wood?) ????? (as in, would they buy ANOTHER from the same place, as opposed to "it was junk...NEVER again" stuff)

part 2 of the pole might profitably be about who sharpens the blades they do have.....

it would take a few days to gather all the names from the members, collate them into a list and post the survey, but it could be very interesting/educational to see the groupings within the results, dont you think?

No hill for a stepper, Bill, I have bought my saw blades from Forrest Blades for the past 12 years or so. And I send them back to Forrest for any sharpening that needs to be done. My complaints amount to a sum total of zilch. They are pricey compared to Freud or Home Depot blades but you get what you pay for in my opinion.

The Forrest Miter Master gives glass smooth cuts with no tearout and the blades stay sharp for a LONG time. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a higher end quality blade.

Bill, I don't think you get any real concensus in this topic. There are just too many local and regional sources in addition to the national companies that cater exclusively to the picture frame industry.

The key answers will be a "quality" blade with a triple chip style 80-100 teeth for wood and about the same for metal blades ($150-$250 per blade). Blades will last longer and work better with a single use (wood or metal----not wood and metal). Sharpening by a company that does tooling sharpening for industry rather than the general public is a must. This is due to that they are most likely to have automated equipment for a perfect grind and tooth replacement if necessary.

Ask the best cabinet shop in your area where they get their blades sharpened if other framers in your area will not.

Thanks Bill

We're always looking for new poll ideas and I appreciate the assistance.

I'll put it on the list of possible future poll ideas, and see what else could be included with the same theme. We did something similar in the past - for choppers.

I think most folks probably use a local sharpening company in their community.

Thanks again for the contribution!
