Well, I just finished testing and installing a new hanging system. It’s called Wireless Magic Marker Hanging System®™. It can be seen at:
http://www.pp-mfg.com/
I think it’s clear if you watch the video.

This system works great!

For single frames it is similar to Wallbuddies in results, but a bit quicker to install and the picture is exactly positioned with no side-to side movement as it’s installed. And, no trying to measure or use a separate level.

There are two cases were it blows away anything else I’ve seen for ease, speed, and accuracy of installation;

1) If you are doing SECURITY installations, you gotta use this system. No measuring, no futzing with where the T-Bolt goes, just position, push, then drill and install. Solid and stable and EASY to put up.

2) If you are doing a multi frame installation. – You can line the frames up horizontally AND/or VERTICALLY and they all line up PERFECT. Run a laser on the wall, line ’em up and bang, you’re installed.

The biggest drawback I see to the system as I tested it is the size of the frame it needs. A minimum of about 5/8” width is needed. This means narrow frames and some of the new ”mini” frames won’t work. Also, I haven’t seen a metal frame version yet. They may have it, but I am not sure.

What I have used comes with a little baggy with instructions, the little level and everything needed to do the install.

I think they’re going to “unveil” it in a “backroom” at the WCAF show.

P.S. I told the gentleman from the company to call a couple of you. Hope you don’t mind.

P.P.S. Hope this isn't too commercial for this forum? I bought and paid for the hardware. I don't get paid by them. But, as far as I know, I am the only one that has used the system in retail.

Looks like a great system! What is the price like? Would it be an add-on product to your customers or do you think you'll give it away like the Goodwill Hangers?

It looks like a nice, quick system but my only question is how is it secure? Can't the artwork just be lifted off the wall. The reason for the t-bolt is to prevent theft and I don't see anything about this system that will prevent theft. Am I missing something?

I am not sure what the final wholesale will be ... I bought it from the manufacurer. I'm guessing about $1 for two brackets to go on the back of the frame, two of the "magic markers," two nails, one level, one sticky pad, instruction sheet.

I did and will use it instead of wire. So, it's a "no cost item." Of course, I will put together a "retail package for $3 or somehting like that. Much faster to install put on the frame than wire too.

For security, they have a special "T-bracket." You use the Marker to make the mark, then use a T-bolt. You STILL use a T-bolt. The beauty is you just push against the wall then drill three holes. Easy.

Oh, for the security installation, they have a different "shape" Marker that can take a screw. so, highly secure.

did I answer the questions?

Looks good.... I wonder how heavy a frame the markers will hold? I like the time saving factor and it looks like anyone should be able to hang a picture. Thanks for the tip.

"Hope this isn't too commercial for this forum?"

Cliff, you're not personally profiting. You're just passing along some information that might help others.

I think you'll be okay.

I wonder how heavy a frame the markers will hold?

They tell me when using a nail, they are rated at 95 pounds. When you use their screw based thingy (As far as I know that's the technical term) it's more, but I don't know the number.

The above price was a "bulk" price guess. I actually bought 50 sets. I would guess it has to be under $2 . I'll see if I can find out what they expect. They are trying to show them to distributors at WCAF.

Basically, the guy came in to have something framed and he showed them to me. I had a job that they were perfect for -- 15 frames on one wall, so I bought 50 sets from him. I was the first buyer. (Hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag?!?) So, the price was not real finalized. I used regular nails and as I understand it they will have hardened nails before the actually "release."

(I think they need better stickers too. I didn't like the red ones they gave me ;) )

Well Cliff if the "system" isn't finalized yet I hope they rethink the name! I thought that Magic Marker was a registered trademark. I'd really hate to get a product I love in my hands and then lose it due to a legal battle! BTW for the past 4 years when I give customers prints mounted on fomecore I have been telling them to stick a thumb tack in the zigzag hangers attached to the back to mark the wall. Man have I lost out on a marketing idea!

Still like the idea, and want to get some for my shop. Dave from DonMar was in yesterday, if this had been up yesterday I wouold have asked him to get me some! Now...!

Bob, you coming to the NEPPFA meeting in Boxboro? I'll get some and bring them to you. Hmmm, maybe the company will give out samples?

I agree with Bob, Magic Marker is probably not the best name for this thing also... Picture Perfect, Inc. is Darrell's company that makes "WallBuddies". A chance for confusion to have two companies in the same industry named almost exactly the same both selling hanger systems to the same customers. The slight difference is Inc. and Mfg. Sombody did'nt do much market research.

hmmmm, I'll tell the guy about this thread, but I think the name is Wireless Magic Marker Hanging System®™ and the qualifiers probably make it legal. It does appear to be registered.

They have been around a while and make some of the stuff you already use like the Fletcher Points. But, I think this is the first time they are not "contract manufacturing" for a manufacturer. Not really sure, I don't work there, just talked to the guy a couple of times.

I may go over to their plant and get a tour next week. If I learn anything useful I'll let you know.

I don't think that any hanging system that uses nails could really be considered a "Security" system. Even if you use the t-bolt system at the bottom, nails come out of sheetrock very easily. Using a system involving screws and some sort of real expansion anchors (Mollys, Rosettes, or Togglers or the like) provide security. The typical plastic conical anchors or the big threaded plastic or metal screws have very little pullout resistance in sheetrock. Have you ever really tried doing a pullout test with your favorite anchors? I have! Get some scraps of sheetrock and do your own tests as most manufacturers have not even tested their own anchors I'll bet.

Actually Greg, they have "different" plastic hangers that take a screw, and you use an anchor and the screw based plastic piece. And I did try to pull it out. The sheet rock is the weak point in the system. I think that's probably as good as you can do?

Well, I got an email from Boris about his Accuhang system.

I have to say I have not seen or tried his system.

He "implied" that because the company that makes these was local, there was some kind of collusion. Seriously, the guy from the company that makes them came in to get something framed. He wouldn't have done that if he wasn't local? He wanted his new system on his frame. I realized it would work well on another job I had pending. So, I bought some. It did what I expected it to do - well. Then I posted. That's it really.

Oh yes, he showed me a metal frame based version, that they can't ship yet. I don't think they have the tooling yet.

My interest has been piqued (sp?). Thanks for sharing this Cliff. Please let us know as you get more info. Thanks.

He'll probably hate me for this :faintthud: , but, call (508) 835-6000, ask for Jack, and tell him I said you wanted samples. I don't know if he's ready for that yet, but this will make him get ready! ;)

Cliff, I called last Friday after reading your post. Talked with Jack for 15 minutes or so. He's sending me out a sample pack. I told him about the Grumble and this thread.
