to frame. Poor thing. Thank God he's headless. He's about 42" long, 3.5" at the widest, sports his rattle at the end. He'll hang vertically. Preservation isn't an issue so I'd like to glue him to a slightly elevated substrate to appear three-dimensional. What kind of glue will stick to this poor little guy's underbody? (I think I'll name him.) Don't think sewing will work, and not sure I'd want to anyway.

Leather weld. Paint both sides then let sit about 10-15 minutes then pound down same as contact cement.

You won't find Leather Weld in the F.A.C.T.S. bible, but it's what I've been welding down snakeskin and shark skins with for years.

Get from Tandy leather or beg some from the shoe repair guy. Better yet, take the skin and substrate to them and let them glue it down.

When that glue touches - - THAT'S IT!

ALERT! IMPENDING, THOUGH IRRESIBLE FRANKENTHREAD!

Topic title: "I have a rattlesnake skin..."

MM, I suggest a really good skin cream, although the pix I've seen of you don't suggest any such condition.

Maybe some Skin So soft would help...If we ever meet face to face, and I hear 'rattling', I'm getting the heck out of Dodge!!!

Baer, so nice to see another framer reccomend Tandy Leather. Are you on their E-Mail list? You can get some great deals through their E-Mail sales.

MM, I second his (Baer's) suggestion.

Charles... you are SO bad. (and you beat me to the punch.) :D

I wondered if this would elicit a jokester's response. Charles, you peach: you didn't fail me! Actually, if I may be a parser: shouldn't I have said I have rattlesnake skin, omitting the article "a", if I intended to comment on my outer layer appearance?
But no matter: we ladies spend quite a bit on nostrums to prevent such comparisons, and we don't take offense.

Now, back to the question at hand. This poor fellow's skin is quite fragile, I think. I'm wincing at Baer's suggestion that I "pound" away at it. Is there any other alternative to the gluing process, or are you saying that only this type of product will stick to the reptile's underbody? And I know I can sew or attach it another way: I'm just worried about damaging him. (He does have some humps in the length of the thing. Why do people have to FRAME stuff like this, anyway?)
