Once they were ubiquitous, but now they seem to have vanished. A customer wants to replace his old frame with a new one. Large strips around the sides of his are falling off and, if it were to be repaired, the gilder would have to start almost from scratch. The gold on this is metal leaf applied like real gold. The corners are modeled after Chinese frames. I believe these corners were called "In and Out".
I don't mine if it doesn't exist as it is not in keeping with the art work, but the customer's wish is my bank account's friend. Sometimes!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Is this what you mean?

APF Munn - Abe Munn frames can do this for you in metal leaf, if gold is too expensive for your customer.

Japanese corner.... called "Kiobi".

Only called "In & Out" by hobby framers and the other unwashed.

Radius (inner and outer) corners, and rarely in gold..... is Chinese and called "Wang".

Now you know so you won't be calling a frame by the Wong name....

Regence Frames also makes a gorgeous one.

1" Faux Gold Frame with Kiobe corners

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them tomorrow.
The corner's on my customer's frame are different from the Abe Munn. They are not as elegant as Munn's. I can call Munn in the morning and email them a photo of my customer's corner. After Munn gives me a price and before I notify the customer, I'll buy a bottle of smelling salts to bring him out of a faint.
I would like to know who made this one so I could avoid them. Long pieces at the front edge of the frames have broken off. This is not an antique, unless you consider the 80's ancient.

I don't know that is necessarily the frame's fault.

I left some compo moulding on a top shelf in my shop where it gets really hot in summer and after a year or so I could scrape the compo off with my fingernails. Maybe your customer's frame had been stored somewhere hot or otherwise unsuitable?

I don't think this was the case here. The picture frame was loved more than the art and had a favored spot in the customer's home office, which is climate controlled all year round.
I have seen similar deterioration before on frames stored in warm basements.
I personally think that some of the spray undercoats do not hold up as well as those that were brushed on.

*Headdesk* STOP torturing me with all the cool corners!!!!! I want the bottom six in full frame format...on my doorstep, now...and no one will be hurt. L.

Kiobi ( Kee - o - bee) means "little man".... cheeks on the outside corner.... other on the inside.

Kobe is beef that is only fed beer till it's 6 months old.....$500/lb in a good Tokyo beef house.
