I got this acknowledgement email for an order I place on line for a CD. I got a chuckle out of it.

:icon21:

Dave-

Thanks for your order with CD Baby!
USPS
(1) Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet: Hustlin' for a Gig

Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.
We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, August 5, 2012.
We hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. In commemoration, we have placed your picture on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sigh...
We miss you already. We'll be right here at http://cdbaby.com/, patiently awaiting your return.

I think some form of this could be adopted to email customers that their work is ready but wonder if it is just too cheesy. On the other hand, if it wasn't so cheesy it might not be nearly as funny.

Mm-mm...

It's wonderful hearing how small companies are embracing positive humour in customer service.. Another one is PhotoJoJo....my package came with a little toy dinosaur - just for fun!

Reminds me of the catalogs and now website of American Science and Surplus. I have been a customer of theirs since they were called Jerryco and there wobbly little line drawings, humorous titles and silly descriptions are the BEST!!! Their customer service is beyond excellent, too. Plus, now, with the website you can click on the drawing to see actual photos of the items!

Here is a sample page (one of my favorite categories, natch!):

There is a UK framing wholesaler called Ashworth and Thompson. They sometimes slip a little funny into their moulding catalogue. One time there was a picture of a fig roll (neatly mitred) among all the other mouldings labelled fig.1.

Little touches like that make you feel you are dealing with human beings rather than a big faceless company. ;)

Be even funnier if someone actually ordered a couple of hundred feet.

I suspect that the vast majority of CDs are purchased by young people who themselves feel hip and edgy. I suspect that they are the demographic that they are trying to attract and serve.

I enjoyed the message and would consider them when buying my next “Lawrence Welk” polka compilation.

I guess I'd have to order another CD to find out if I'm still "Customer of the Year".

:o
