How's business revisited

In response to jkoyas thread regarding the general business climate I had posted a few questions. The thread was lost so, I would like to ask once again...
Does there seem to be a difference on how an economic downturn affects a frame shop in a blue collar market vs. a more affluent market?
Do consumers in a more affluent market tighten their purse strings more or less than a less affluent market?
Are there any multi-location owners that can provide some insight into these questions?

P.S. My original reply to the question of how is business was "a steady trickle" but, being a newer shop I have no past statistics to compare the current situation to.

I have one shop located in a "college town", and one 25 miles away where most of my clientele are white collar. Business is down in the college town shop. Not by alot, but still down from last year. We just did our figures for the first quarter, and business overall is up 3%. The conclusion I can make is the people with higher income are still spending, but those with more moderate incomes are holding back.
