ok...first off, I will not be doing this. I do not want to do this. Trying to help out a friend opening a restaurant. They have two prints. One is 3 1/2 ft x 4 1/2 ft . The other is 10 x 4 ft. She doesn't want to frame, but wants to know least expensive way to mount and possibly laminate since it will probably need to be cleaned. I think she just wants to screw it through to the wall.

I appreciate any help.

P.S. Thumbtacks are not an option ;-)

The only thing I could think of would be to spray mount on oversigned 1/2" foam board.

I would not be able to laminate anything that big in my shop. But what about spraying it with some kind of finish or painting on a decoupage finish to make it look like a painting. At least she would be able to clean it.

The edges would need to be covered with something, but I can't imagine what.

It will still bow over time.

That's all I have!

Sorry I wasn't more help then that.

I use the services of my plaquemounting company who can mount up to 48 x 96 onto 1/4 inch mdf board and also laminate it. This will keep it rigid and screwable. For your oversize one, consider having it cut at an appropriate part of the image and mount and laminate separately and rejoin on the wall.
The advantages of the lamination are UV resistance and washability. The edges are neutral and not noticeable

good luck

Hah! Jerry, how did you guess?

I called a graphic co. in Montgomery. They can do the smaller for $6 sq. ft laminated on Gator. So that one will be about $129.

The larger one I talked them into cutting into three pieces. Its a panoramic.

Whew.

I have been in a million of them and the stuff on the wall always looks like, well you know.

There is three within walking distance of here. I know them all. Those three owners are the only people that I know that is tighter with a buck than artist.

One of the three is trying to be upscale. She spent 65 thousand on the build out, and just couldn't part with any thing over a hundred for framing. It shows.

Jerry....exactly. And exactly why I wouldn't touch this project with a ten-foot pole. I would make zero dinero and have a HUGE headache.

Items like that go downtown to a blueprint & graphics supplier, where they are mounted to 1/2" Gatorfoam and laminated. That sort of supplier can mount & laminate up to 48x96 in one shot, through a heated roller press. Then I put a frame around them and hang them with mending plates.

I suggest avoiding MDF for this kind of job. It is heavy, chemically nasty, and moisture sensitive. Gatorfoam or MightyCore would be more stable over the long term, and weigh less than 5 lbs.

Someone comes into a frame shop, doesn't want a frame, but wants you to do a sign company's job the cheapest way possible? Go figure!

Knowledge has value!

If Mecianne can provide what this customer needs at an acceptable price, then she may be blessed with the order.

And I'm sure she will have the fortitude to make that price not only acceptable, but profitable, as well.
