One of our Grumble friends is closing his business,
with today being the very last day. There are five
customers who, although he left messages that
today was the final day, haven't yet picked up.

I'm curious how you'd handle this sort of situation.

I think I know who that is. Contact them and offer to deliver if possible.

You would need to check local laws, they may be considered abandoned property and be required to be turned over to the state. That being said, i would try to make arrangements to either have the art picked up or delivered and after a month, turn the rest over to the state, unless I would like it on my wall. :)

I don't want any of it on my wall. I live about a 40-minute commute from the store. I'm going to keep any unclaimed pieces at my apartment in San Francisco. If people want to get them after Saturday, they can make the drive up to me to get them, at my convenience. I'm not going to put another mile on my car to get these to their owners. Everyone has been called at least twice.

Warning call....then YARDSALE! L.

Often not worth all the hoops you have to jump through to make the claim IMO.

If it where to sit around longer than another 2 weeks I would sent letters out via certified mail asking them to pick it up in within the next 2 weeks, make contact/arrangements or have it packed and shipped to them at their expense, COD.

I am still amazed, that after almost 2 years in business, people still come in to pick up stuff that they left behind at the previous shop.

There was art, brought in in 1985, portrait of a daughter, done by the son. You would think this means something..right?
Well, it was finally picked up last year... (and yes, I did collect the balance on that!!!!)

I don't understand that if you bring something in, are told a date when it's done and then you just leave it. Especially when it's paid for already. But I still have 3 pieces here, paid in full; one has been here for about 8 months, the others slightly less. I have left messages, sent emails, sent a postcard but nada.
It's paid for. I don't care. If I would close business I probably would bring this home and toss it after a few years.

Is there another close by independent frame shop that could hold them for the customers? I'm sure that shop would gladly hold on to them hoping to pick up some new regular customers.

I love your signature line, FramerCat.
